Datoka Rose, 9, from Mackay in Queensland has recently had a diagnosis and undergone surgery for a cancer that is extremely rare in children and now, her sister has set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money to support her family during this trying time.

Dakota Rose has been diagnosed with Ovarian cancer at just 9 years of age, something that is very rarely seen in someone so young. She has had surgery to remove the tumor and this week has begun chemotherapy treatment.

So far the GoFundMe page set up by Dakota’s sister, Angel Grace, has raised $7,975 of her goal of $10,000.

The parents of Dakota have had to leave their jobs and move to Brisbane in order to care for their 9 year old daughter whilst the treatment takes place.

The GoFundMe page says:

My 9 year old sister has recently been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she had an operation to remove the tumor on Friday and she is starting chemotherapy tomorrow 16/5/2016. My family has to relocate to Brisbane for at least 6 months as she undergoes her treatment. My parents have had to leave their jobs behind and Dakota and our family will be very greatful for all the support we get.

  • I wish there was an update on the go fund me page. Last it says she had stage 3 cancer but that was in 2016.

  • So sad, so young! I admire any parent who goes through this with a child, must be so difficult

  • Way too young and traumatic. She should be enjoying her childhood and playing games not battling cancer. Thoughts and prayers are with her and family

  • Our family’s thoughts & prayers are with Dakota, Angel Grace (an incredible sister full of love & support & who sounds like a child who’s had to think like an adult) & their parents. We hope that while you’re so far from your family & friends that you are getting the support our family did from Camp Quality, Ronald McDonald House & Red Kite. Our son is now 20 but was 5 when his brain tumour was discovered & like you we spent many times away from family as we live in Adelaide but went to Sydney for his treatment but, with the help from these amazing Organizations we stayed sane, felt supported & got the help needed. Please, please don’t be afraid to ask for their help you would be amazed what they can do even if it’s giving you tickets to the movies, zoo etc. Sending you lots of love.

    • What a hard time for you. I’m glad it’s now in the past!
