Packing for a holiday is a challenge when you are packing your own clothes and bringing extra clothes for your multiple dolls.

Sydney sisters, Veronika and Sofia Heszterenyiova had a selection of special dolls from their 64 doll collection amongst their luggage when they recently went on holiday.  The extra dolls clothes was imperative for the long days spent by the beach and changing their outfits for the photo shoots taken of the dolls in tropical locations.

Veronika, 22, and Sofia, 18, collect 18-inch American Girl dolls and told the Daily Mail Australia in a recent interview that they take their dolls to the cinema, on holiday and have even taken them up in a hot air balloon.

“You’re never too old for dolls,” Veronika said. “When we went to Hawaii we took some dolls with us and were taking pictures on the beach.  Some people walking by us were taking pictures of us taking pictures of the dolls, it’s really fun.”

The sisters only started their collection in 2013 after they travelled to Los Angeles on holiday.  The discovery of the American Girl dolls and the accompanying accessories changed their lives.  They quickly ‘fell in love’ with everything there was on offer.

Buying a doll each, they initially planned to stop there doll spending spree there, but when they travelled to New York, they started to visit the store on a daily basis – buying more doll clothes and accessories.

Arriving back in Australia, they went online and ordered more dolls and their collection quickly grew.

“There’s a lot of adults that collect them, and older teenagers, there are probably more adults than children,” Veronika said. “The dolls are quite expensive and very good quality.”

Their collection has grown to include 64 dolls, each with different skin, hair and eye colour.  “When you go to the shop they have a hairdresser for the dolls, a doll hospital and a café where you can go and they have a special chair for your doll so you can eat with them,’”Veronika said.

“At Christmas there’s Christmas dresses, for Easter there’s Easter dresses, there’s always something and you want more and more and can’t stop.”

Veronika and Sofia run their own Facebook page, Instagram and YouTube channel dedicated to their collection.  Sofia is just about to commence university where she will complete a Bachelor of Arts majoring in dance and performance, the same degree Veronika has just completed.

The sisters hope to start their own Aussie American Girl Doll Club where other enthusiasts can come together, play with their dolls, whether they be American Girl, Our Generation or Journey Girl dolls, and swap doll clothes.

  • Some may think this is a strange hobby, but I certainly don’t. No, I don’t have a collection of dolls. The only collection I have is very old family photos from the late 1800s. Unfortunately I don’t know who the people are. There are no living relatives who can help me. My Mum didn’t knbow who some of them were either.
