This mum was shocked at the response from a birth photographer when she told her she was having a c-section.

The text message was shared on the Facebook page Breastfeeding Mama Talk.

Breastfeeding Mama Talk shared a screen shot of the text message with the caption, “This is not okay would love to know who this photographer is,” she wrote.

“Mums who have had a C-section you’re just as much a damn good mother as anyone. How you gave birth and you did certainly give birth does not determine your worth as a mum. #stopmomshaming.”

The mum in question defended herself to the photographer saying,

“I didn’t opt for anything but alright, I had no idea birth photographers discriminated against people for how they birth their babies…” she said.

The photographer replied….

“A surgery isn’t birth my dear,” the photographer replied. “ You aren’t giving birth. You have a surgery to your baby from your abdomen, That is not birth no matter how you swing it and I for one don’t want to be there to take pictures of it.”

The post has gone crazy with over 10,000 reactions from followers.

Many commentators are arguing that it is a fake message and it was just a post trying to make a point. True or not in today’s world I truly believe it is sadly what women face on a regular basis.

  • what a rude person who won’t be in business for very long with that approach to the customers

  • What a horrible thing to say to a mum who is probably stressed enough already that she needs a c section. I really hope it is fake.

  • This photographer should be put out of business quite soon.

  • She needs to change the name of her business for a start and name it “Vaginal Birth Photographer” ….
I would love to know if she has children of her own.
But what i do know is that she is rude, ignorant and has zero class.

  • Whether it was a fake message or not, what point where they trying to make ?! A point of judgement and discrimination ! I bet this so called photographer never gave birth him/herself, let alone ever had a C-section.
Many women have C-section for medical reasons and have little or no choice.

  • I have had 2 C sections he first one my baby went into distress, my baby was born blue, I had a terrible dr who did such a bad c section for my second child there was no choice a natural birth would have put me at risk. I felt so ashamed, I felt lazy, took the easy way out. I have figured out why, I had a friend (at this point was a friend) who sat there and told me I wasn’t born to be a mother, I wasn’t made to be a mother, this is something women do this is what our bodies are made for and you couldn’t do it. At this point in my life I believed her, she was already a mother she must have it all worked out, how could I live up to that expectation when I couldn’t even give birth.

Well…i got a stiff talking to by my parents, “birth” is bringing the baby into the world, safe and sound with what ever works for you and your body. Anyone who thinks having a c section is not really giving birth is so uninformed, the pain I felt after lasted months. My tummy has a permanent scar, and you what it was the door that my most two life Precious loves came through!

  • Doesn’t really sound authentic – surely they would just say we have no spots at this time.

  • Terribly judgmental and unpleasant and I hope they went with someone that was kind and inclusive.

    • A definition of birth may have been useful to give to this photographer to educate them on the meaning of birth! The definition of birth is the emergence of a baby from its mother.

  • The Birth Photographer obviously didn’t want the job or can’t handle being in theatre. The Mum may have known that s c-section was the only safe option.
I hope the Mum told all her friends who the photograper was and it gets “around the grapevine”

  • It’s pretty hard to believe a birth photographer would seriously say this.
