A man critically injured in an altercation with his son in the Brisbane CBD yesterday has died in hospital.

The 53-year-old Ashmore man was allegedly punched in the mouth after a verbal confrontation on Ann Street about 4pm yesterday.

He then fell backwards and hit his head on the footpath, causing him to lose consciousness, reports 9 NEWS.

He was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but sadly he died today.

The man’s 25-year-old son, Morgan Isles-English, appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.

Police are now considering upgrading the charges after the man’s death.

Mr Isles-English, from Teneriffe, paced, sobbed and bumped his head on the glass of the dock after being led into court today.

“I love you,” he told a woman in the public gallery, believed to be his mother.

Mr Isles-English did not apply for bail and the matter has been adjourned until August 15.

  • these sort of incidnts happen to much and the fallin and banging head and dying has occured with friends and family to often for my liking. Then you have to live with what as occured and court case as well…What is the answer I do not know except pysical violence in families too is a NO NO and must come under review. This case is a domestic violence offence with long lasting repocussions. An area for still more education and raising of awareness. Feel sad as I have family members who in the heat of moment this could occur, I have recommended marriage guidancce councelling but they have to realise how threatening their behaviour is to there relationship.. as in this case life threatening from just one punch in anger

  • How tragic !! I feel for this family and reading the reaction of the son I sure also feel for him. The death of his father caused by himself is a heavy burden to carry the rest of your life on your shoulders !

  • how devastating for the family, especially the wife/mum. Grieve her husband and her son at the same time

  • It’s tragic. A punch can kill. How wasteful of life. Of a moment. The riches we’d have in our hearts and minds if we could walk away or defuse before losing control. Now son will go to jail aswell as living with killing his own dad. It’s a sad situation.

  • Very shocking. It just goes to show yet again that a second of anger can and will have deadly consequences and change lives.
