Bill Spedding, a man once identified as a person of interest in the disappearance of William Tyrrell, is now facing historical child sex charges in Victoria.

William ‘Bill’ Harrie Spedding of Bonny Hills is expected to front Ballarat Magistrates Court today to face five charges of indecent assault and two of sexual intercourse with a child under 10 years old.

According to the SMH the alleged offences date back to the 1980s and relate to a girl Mr Spedding knew.

Spedding, 65, has previously been questioned by police investigating the disappearance of three-year-old William, but has always denied any involvement.

“I wish to state that I have had no involvement whatsoever in the disappearance of William Tyrrell,” he said in the September 2015 video.

William Tyrrell was last seen wearing a Spiderman costume on Friday, September 12 at 10.30am as he played with his sister in the front yard of their grandmother’s home on Beneroon Drive, Kendall.

Spedding became connected to the Tyrrell case after it was revealed he had been in touch with William’s grandmother about fixing her broken washing machine.

Family share their outrage

Where’s William Tyrrell? Bring Him Home – Official Facebook page yesterday posted, “We should all be outraged that little William was abducted when playing in his Nana’s garden.

We should all be outraged that for whatever reason, the ‘somebody’ who knows something is not coming forward.
Outraged, that this ‘somebody’ is keeping a terrible secret…. If you are the ‘somebody’ who knows anything of William’s abduction, how long can you live with that?

How long can you live with knowing that there is a family who desperately needs their little boy home in the arms of his Mummy and Daddy where he belongs?

  • This poor little boy has been missing for so long and his story has been in the media so much, yet no one knows anything? I find it hard to believe. The police are usually spot on with their investigations. If they’re looking into someone, they would have good reason to

  • I am so sorry for that entire family. I hope they get answers soon.

  • these people make me so angry

  • Not sure that there is a connection between the two. This guy could take a polygraph too.

    • I wonder if the polygraph is accurate if a person being interviewed is very nervous and the voice alters. I know mine does if I am nervous talking to somebody I have been introduced to in a general occasion.
I am not making excuses for the guy. There is an old saying “where there’s smoke there’s fire”. If he’s guilty I hope they “nail him to the floor”. Don’t put him in isolation.

  • Hopefully he will never be released from jail.

  • May he rot in hell.
    I hope they find William
