Ohio Court Judge, Megan Shanahan, followed the jury’s recommendation that 34-year-old Glen Bates should be executed for aggravated murder.

Bates’ attorney said he wants to appeal the sentence. Bates didn’t speak at the sentencing hearing.

The jury in Cincinnati convicted Bates on multiple charges in the death of his daughter, Glenara Bates.

His attorneys had argued he should get life in prison and that such a sentence would force him to think about what happened every day, reports Daily Mail.

Bates declined to comment as he was sentenced on Monday. He reportedly turned down a plea deal that would have saved his life. He was also sentenced to 15 years and eight years in prison on two lesser charges.

‘This man is a murderer who needs to pay for what he did to this innocent baby. My heart breaks for this little girl. She died in one of the most horrific ways imaginable,’ Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters said in a news release.

Glenara weighed 13 pounds when she was pronounced dead in March 2015, after her mother took her to a hospital.

Prosecutors said she had belt and bite marks, bruises, missing teeth, broken ribs and head trauma and other injuries.

Glenara’s mother, Angela Bradley, has pleaded not guilty in the case. She has a plea hearing scheduled Tuesday.

Authorities said her other six children are in the custody of relatives or family services.

  • I’m glad the other children are in care, however where were family and friends? Did anybody notice anything with this poor little girl? I wish that the authorities were contacted earlier and that this poor child did not have to die. RIP.

  • I support the death penalty, but feel it maybe an easy way out for come criminals. They need to feel the suffering that their poor victims felt.

  • I used to agree wholeheartedly with the death penalty when I was younger. I’m not sure now. I think the mother has a lot to answer for, the abuse obviously went on for a long time and mum didn’t step in

  • I think death penalty, in this case execution is a rather easy way out. I would think a life long prison sentence with many restrictions would give him some more suffering and maybe just maybe the realization that what he did was so wrong.

    • I agree completely. It’s too easy to just die. :-(

  • This is so horrific, may the poor little one rest in peace. Life in jail seems just for such a horrific crime. Everyone involved should be punished.

  • let him die the same death she did

  • Basically this little girl was murdered by neglect. Starving her would have caused her organs to cease working and it would have been very painful. Besides that she was physically abused. How long did she endure the abuse for??

  • Yep definitely if guilty. These poor little kids cant defend themselves. These people were ment to love and protect them. So wrong. Put pedophiles on the list as well.

  • There are some crimes which to me are evil, as in this case, and I would not object to the death penalty.

No, I do not support death penalty. I would love to see it abolished all around the world.
