Hello!

My son has been constipated for a few weeks we have tried prune juice and extra water but no difference. Have seen the dr and he said Bub is all good and has prescribed a laxative which seems to work a little however he seems to me to still be uncomfortable.

  • Stew some pears for your baby. I hope this helps.

  • Is he eating fruits yet ? Try to stay away from banana and add kiwi and soft pear in his diet. Make sure he drinks enough. Also massaging the belly clockwise around the belly button can help

  • We mixed a little bit of raw sugar in a bottle with warm water – this often softened the stool. I’ve heard rose water also. Hope bib is doing ok and some of these tips help further.

  • I’ve heard kiwi fruit helps constipation in babies. I’d double check with a health professional first.

  • Increase fibre or high fibre foods introduced…banana! Extra Water and if bub is formula fed it could be adding to the constipation, some formula are better than others at preventing constipation;ask chemist or child health nurse. Chocoban from the chemist helped our little man some years ago worked in about an hour. Just be careful with giving stuff to help and bubs could become reliant on it!

  • Gently move your baby’s legs in a bicycling motion to help move the hard poo along your babies intestine.

  • When my first was born 18 years ago (wow, I really am getting old- I also have a 13yo and a 2.5yo!), a lovely old CWA lady told me that bananas really are the ‘perfect’ food… Her exact words were

“…they’re beaut for babes! If they’re runny it’ll block ‘em up, and if they’re stuck it’ll make ‘em go”

Basically, I guess, she was saying that it rights the bowel… And it has worked, without fail, for the last 18 years.

If they’ve got the runs, I feed them bananas and it help harden their movements, and if they’re constipated it helps to soften it enough to pass easier…

I was given laxatives for my eldest son, as well as Movicol (that was actually really good), when he was a little baby but, once he was started on solids I have only used bananas :)

Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked for me..? So maybe it’s a kid thing??

    Good luck <3

  • A little brown sugar mixed with cooled boiled water.

Or while they on nappy change table. Have them nappy free and gently lift lefs up and down like a biking stance. gently
