Hello!

My child complained of a sore arm and I thought nothing of it, she fell of the stool while toilet training and “hurt her arm”. By the next morning still complaining my husband takes her to the hospital and found out she has a broken arm… Feel awful, feeling like a bad mum. Anyone else done something similar and felt like a bad mum?

  • We’ve all felt terrible as mums before. I’m sorry you all had to go through this

  • Not me personally, but I think that’s more luck than anything else. Several of my friends have had similar experiences.

  • Yeah. My son has had an asthma attack where I just thought he was sleepy because usually he coughs and this time he just couldn’t stay away. I could have killed him.

  • It’s hard to be 100% correct with our decision all the time. You did the best you could at the time and when you realised there was still an issue, you did something about it. Try not to beat yourself up about it. There will always be something you wished you had done differently at the time.

  • oh that is not your fault! i hope you are not blaming yourself now. lol poor darl. this hasn’t happened to me.

  • Good old mummy guilts. I know its easy to say but don’t be so hard on yourself x. There was no way you could tell, especially if she wasn’t making a huge deal about it. I’ve never broken a bone but would imagine it would be extremely painful?
Hope your daughter is on the mend now :)

  • Yes! at the park mine fell onto grass from standing – I told her to keep playing. Her wrist hurt she said – I thought she was just tired and wanted to go home. By afternoon I realised she was still complaining and by now holding her wrist – got it checked out and yes, was broken. I have since heard that this is pretty common, so please don’t feel bad!

  • Sweetie, you don’t have xray vision, how could you have known? Don’t be so hard on yourself

  • I sent my son to school with the sore arm! By the time I got home that night it was twice the size it should be – it was broken in 2 places in his wrist & also his elbow!
