  • I’ve never had a cleaner, I just do it myself. I wouldn’t be able to afford a cleaner. My advice would be to try and tackle a bit each day if you can to be less overwhelming.

  • I got a cleaning company in to give my bathrooms, windows and floors a good going over. Although I’d love to have a fortnightly cleaner I just cant afford it, but having the professional come in and do the things I struggle with was awesome and now I find it easier to stay on top of.

  • I don’t have a house cleaner. I try to stay on top of the cleaning by doing a little each day.

  • I was talking about this a few days ago and a male friend pays $30 an hour for a cleaner.

  • I would love to have a house cleaner, and a cook, and a gardener, someone to do the shopping for me when I can’t be bothered. My neighbour has one and pays $30 an hour. Not bad I suppose for just an hour here and there

  • I know of people that pay around $25 to $30 an hour but its not an intense clean. They dust around things as opposed to moving them. I personally believe it is money better spent elsewhere.

  • I don’t have one but I know a lot of people that do. They pay around $30 an hour.

  • I always love the idea of a cleaner but when I think about paying someone else to clean my house, I get a bit motivated and do it myself to keep that money in my pocket. It’s annoying though, I’d really love one!!

  • I have never had a cleaner but I have to admit it would have been nice on some occasions. I still do it all myself and the house does not get dirty or untidy with just hubby and I. lol!!!

  • hopefully one day ill get a cleaner!

  • ooh I may have to try vinegar and washing detergent, thanks

  • I cant agree with you more! I have often thought about it, and when i go back to work after maternity leave i am thinking of getting someone once a fortnight, to do floors, showers etc. Atm i use vinegar/dishwashing liquid it works well!

  • the rate here is 25-30 an hour.

  • Yes I have an awesome cleaner. Such a lifesaver! She comes once a fortnight for 2 hours. She charges $30 per hour. I get her to clean the bathrooms, vacuum (including stairs which I hate doing) dust, mop floors. She has also done a few extras at her own initiative including vacuuming bathroom vents (I never could be bothered), cleaning range hood etc. She is also very thorough.

I do a vacuum and clean of bathrooms on the week she doesn’t come, change our linen, do all washing and ironing – it’s worthwhile working out what you don’t mind doing to keep the cost down. I also find that I cook every night because I have more time so not having takeaway pays for the cleaner.

  • Having four kids hubby offered to get me a cleaner to lighten the load but being OCD about cleaning I refused because I’d be they type to re clean once cleaner left. My mum used to have one and she used to pay a set price and I’d recommend that as opposed to per hour fee incase the cleaner works at a slow pace.
