Hello!

I have always been curious when I hear a child’s name as to whether or not there is a story behind it, if they were named after someone and/or how their parents came to choose that name.

I have a little girl called Cassandra Riley, she is named after one of my best friends and the other two chose her middle name as we didn’t like the sounds of their 3 names altogether. Naming them after my friends started as a joke, my husband is one of 6 boys, his brother has had 2 boys, over 80% of his family is male I think so when we talked about children my husband said we are going to have a boy but if we have a girl I’ll let you name her anything you want, I’ll even let you name her after the girls (I had spoken how I loved the name Cassandra) if you wanted. He was so convinced and his family too that we would have a boy right up until the ultrasound but I always knew ^_^.

If you have a story or even if you didn’t and would just like to share the name you chose I’d love to hear it (you can also tell the story without the name as well =) )

  • No, ours are just names we liked that we could agree on.

  • We gave our children a Biblical name and only one name no middle name. My daughter is called Ketura (3rd wife of Abraham) and it means incense / sweet fragrance, my son is called Enosh (son of Seth) It was in the times of Enosh that people began engaging in the practice of prayer, calling out to the name of God. My other 2 children are adoptive children and not named by ourselves.

  • We settled on the first name we could finally agree on.

  • I named many of my toys, and later my pets, after characters in Lord of The Rings. So when I had a child I named her Arwen. It is such a pretty name. The name also invoked the spirit of an able, strong and accomplished woman.

  • the first names are just the names we could agree on. But the middle names are one from each family so both children have 2 middle names

  • Our son’s name is Sawyer and we got it from a hill in the snowy mountains and a hut :) We go up there all the time and even celebrated our engagement there way before we had him. We both loved the name from then!

  • Our D1 name is Lily after the English Singer Lily Allen (Middle name Peta after Peterborough where my gran is from)
D2 is Ellie after another English singer Ellie Goulding…. if it was a boy either one would have been casey….

  • With my son (Riley James), I liked the name Riley and my sister suggested James as the middle name & it stuck. My husband and I are expecting a little girl (different relationship to my son’s father) & we came up with her name before we even knew we are having a girl. No significance or family attachments just we both like the name.

  • I’m still struggling to choose a name. My partner wants to name after a motorbike or footballer haha (typical male hehe)

  • My eldest son has the middle name Terence which is my ex husband grandfathers name.
My daughter has the middle name Jaye which is in memory of my brother. he passed a year earlier and his name was Jason but I called him Jay. I chose Ella for her first name as some say it means light/bright and she sure was the light after the tragedy of losing my brother.
my youngest middle name is Bailey which was the middle name of my uncle who passed when I was a teen. I was very close to him. My two babies have very special middle names which I hope they both will cherish.

  • Our children’s names are the only names my husband and I could agree upon. We both liked totally different names for our son and daughter, so we were lucky we came across one name for each or them that we could both agree upon!

  • I have two adult sons and their middle names are their grandfathers names, first son got my Dad’s name as he had passed away, second got his other grandpops name too. Memory lingers on, if girls same reasoning could apply if more kids then special people could apply

  • We named our son William after my pa that passed away when i was 15.

  • My husband and I had picked out the names of Timothy Brien for our oldest son – however when we saw him, he didn’t look like a Timothy Brien and we suddenly said David James. So we never named any of our other children until after they were born.

  • My little girl was named after her great-grandmother, I had decided on her name years before I was lucky enough to have her.
