Hello!

I gave a present to one of my husband’s family members for their birthday and around a couple of months later they gave a gift to my mother-in-law that was exactly the same thing I gave them just a few months back. They said they got a “gift from someone and didn’t like it so it was a good opportunity to give it to someone else.” I think they forgot that we gave that present in the first place. What do people think about re-gifting gifts? Do you or don’t you?

  • Oh wow lol I always try and remember who gave me what so I don’t make an embarrassing mistake of giving it to the wrong person.
I regift if I don’t like it or have no use for it. I mean what is the point of keeping something that is useless or not to your liking…

  • Uh oh, embarrassing! The least you can do if you’re re gifting is to remember who gave you the unwanted gift to begin with. That way you avoid situations like this, which obviously upset some

  • Oh dear that would have been damaging to your relationship. I’ve never re gifted presents from people. But I enter competitions and quite often pass the prizes on as gifts

  • Lol, I sometimes do but I make sure it doesn’t go to the person who gave it to me or anyone that their close with.

  • Oh wow that’s awkward. I have done it with baby item’s that i already have but i make sure it’s not back to the same person or anyone that person is associated with

  • i think that it is fine but yeah i haven’t done it lol! i would probably just give it to someone and tell them that it was an unwanted or un=needed gift so they know but still appreciate it.

  • That must’ve been a bit embarrassing . I am good at remembering who gave what and I only re-gift if it is something I cannot use or not suitable and I know that person will like it . Otherwise donating it is a better option .

  • Hahaha, that’s so funny. I went to a work Secret Santa party last year. My gift was a margueritta drink set that was more then 12 months out of date. Obviously an unwanted gift they had at the back of a cupboard

  • I think I actually have once or twice although I have been careful for the person who gave it to me didn’t find out so that their feelings never got hurt…

  • I understand why people re gift but yeah you have to have a good memory to whom you got or given from.

  • not to close family but sometimes to acquaintances or work colleagues

  • I have received presents that I would never use & I couldn’t give them to anyone I care about or even to people not that close.

  • Re-gifting requires tact and a good memory!

  • Note: if you are re-gifting just remember who gave you the gift in the first place and make sure the person who receives the re-gift is not in the same family circle.

  • As much as sometimes it is tempting, I dont regift. If i feel the need to move on a present that doesn’t suit me I pass it on to a worthwhile charity.
