Hello!

I just wanted to know your opinions on teaching young and even older kids, music. Do you think that it helps them with schoolwork and other life skills?

  • Music is wonderful for everyone at any age! My 2 year old delayed child can tap along to any beat and can follow a tune, Thanks to music, she is starting to pick up words as she is forever singing along matching the rhythm, tone and cadence of her favourite songs. But we don’t do lessons or anything, just YouTube

  • That is very true BellaB !

  • I think it can teach kids a lot – but I also think that it doesn’t suit every kid. We offered each of our kids the chance to do a term of learning an instrument. Some continued, some didn’t. I don’t think you get much benefit if you force your kids to do it.

  • Yes my 7 year old does keyboard via CoolKidsMusic. My neighbour is inspiring me very much. Mum and all of her 4 kids are playing in a band and mums sister has joined too. They all go together and have a great time. Practicing and making music together is frequently done and beside that they love to sing and dance. I believe making music, singing and dancing releases a lot of positive energy.

  • My kids didn’t learn any musical instruments until school, they never got really excited about playing them either. They did have access to lots of music to listen to and really enjoyed it

  • no, but great question. wish it was affordable

  • Only music lessons my kids had were at school. They had the opportunity to play many different instruments. If they ever showed a real interest/talent in one particular instrument, we would have looked into more lessons and training, if that’s what they wanted. They didn’t tho, so we didn’t. All kids are different, you just gave to find their passion, it may fe music, it may not

  • Absolutely!!!! My hubby is a musician so obviously the kids have followed in his footsteps. I’ve got an 8 year old drummer girl and a 3 year old who looks like she’ll be a talented singer!

  • My eldest does choir but her dad teaches her guitar. Next year she can do musical instruments at school

  • I think you can tell if your child is into music and if so and your child is patient enough I don’t see why not!

  • I think it is important to make sure it is your child’s decision that they want to learn an instrument and if so that they choose what one interests them.

  • My children are not musical at all. I do think it’s very beneficial though.

  • Apart from agitating the neighbours, it really depends on the child. My oldest like the keyboard and has lessons once a week in the lunch hour. The other 2 are more into the physical side and do dancing instead.

  • My children aren’t interested in music & I still this they are well adjusted individuals

  • Music is relaxing and can give a child a sense of peace and accomplishment. I think all children should learn something musically.
