Hello!

How does everyone get their kids to brush their teeth properly without nagging? I have one child out of 4 who brushes how it should be done.

  • My 6 year old (I foster her) has soft decay and had 10 teeth removed and 1 crown placed when she was 4. We use this to explain how important brushing teeth is.
When my kids were a bit younger I always made sure to brush my own teeth in front of them so they could see it’s a normal thing to do and copy me.
I also had a special song I sang whilst brushing teeth. I do that still with my youngest (she’s 3 and has Down Syndrome). First I brush my teeth in front of her. Then she can brush my teeth. Then I brush her teeth whilst I sing the song and after that she can brush her own teeth. I nice tooth brush certainly can help by younger kids and you could consider an electrical toothbrush.
Last Xmas I gave a digital timer to my kids for brushing teeth. They use it all the time and find it rather interesting.

  • Tell them if they have teeth decay , their teeth may rot and you may not have any teeth in the future to brush .

  • An old fashioned 2 minute egg timer has worked for my children as far as the length of time they brush for, and a trip to the dentist to reinforce how important proper brushing is helps too.

  • Get them to choose the toothbrush as an encouragement. if they are young a star chart could work well here.

  • have a timer set for two mins and make it fun. best brushing wins! best booty shaker wins lol

  • Simple for mine I tell them if they wont brush their teeth then it’s more likey they will have to get fillings from the dentist…..it actually works for me!

  • When my boys were younger I just showed them a couple of pictures of bad teeth and explained that this would happen if they didn’t brush everyday

  • As an ex dental nurse the best way to show the kids if they are cleaning properly is by using a disclosing solution that will show up any plague not removed after the 1st brush. Start a reward system for them when they are brushing well. An electric toothbrush does a better job for the younger kids too.

  • A cool toothbrush, rewards and routine.

  • I put a wiggles song on and tell the kids to brush there teeth till the song is finished (try not to make it a song that goes for to long). We tell the kids when thy have finished the have got wiggly clean teeth.

  • My kids still complain but I found letting them choose their own toothbrushes helped. Also, letting them choose their own toothpaste.. It sounds silly but my kids are much happier when they have their ‘Dora’ or ‘ Diego’ brushes.

  • Show them pics on the Internet of what can happen if they don’t, lol. (If they are school aged).

  • The youngest is 7 so the character brushes will not work.

  • I turn it into a game and always do it with them as they love to copy Mum.

  • maybe a timer, fun toothbrushes, kids toothpaste, or electric brush? make a game out of it
