Hello!

“What age is best for braces? My son is 13 but I have been told his teeth will probably move again anyway so is there a recommended age? Have any other mums heard this?” Any thoughts as to the right age for braces?

  • The best person to give you the correct information would be a dentist. 13 yr olds grow at different rates and their jaws could still be a child’s size, or grown into adult sized.

  • My ten year old has a plate, but probably won’t be given braces till he’s about 13. My 12 year old is about to get braces.

  • Usually at age 12 or 13, but it depends on what your dentist thinks.

  • yeah that seems like the right age

  • Speak to the dentist. They would be able to tell you how developed your son’s mouth is.

  • how did you go, what did the dentist recommend?

  • you should ask the dentist

  • Your family dentist would be the best one to advise. I was 13 when I had mine and only had to have them for a year

  • Hope things worked out well

  • Once they have all their adult teeth. I got braces when I was 13. Also get a 2ND opinion.

  • Check with the orthodontist .They can help you

  • I’d say the orthodontist would know best. If you’re worried you could get a second opinion.

  • I think it depends on the child n their teeth

  • As for the moving teeth that is definitely true, especially if the wisdom teeth are yet to come up. Your best bet would be to visit the dentist / orthodontist and have X-Rays taken and ask their advice on what would be the best time.

  • Teenager I reckon. That’s when I had mine
