Hello!

I change my children’s pillow every couple of years, but for mine I love it too much and its like 15 years old. When is a good time to change pillows? Does anyone else have a pillow that they love?

  • Theoretically they say every two years…. but next to never

  • I had no idea pillows had expiry dates!!!
I have had mine for a few years now but every so often I’ll change them when they’re feeling a bit limp.
I got a couple for a hundred bucks each just before I had kids which was 3 years ago and I don’t think I could throw them out just yet because of the price!!!

  • I always buy Tontine pillows as they are the only ones with a expiry date stamped on the pillow so you know when to throw it out

  • Yes, I can’t depart from my pillow either. I did several attempts to buy myself a new pillow, trialing in store. Just never succeeded to find one that can replace my old one. So I stick with washing it regularly, replace the down/ have down added or refilled, and steam clean it every now and then. Also an extra pillow lining/cover under the pillow case is helpful

  • They actually have expiry dates printed on them. I change them when they’re uncomfortable, usually way after expiry.

  • I think the recommendation is to change them every two years.

  • If you love it and it’s really comfortable, you can just wash it regularly in hot water and dry it in the sun or clothes dryer. You don’t have to replace, it’s better to replace for health reasons, but washing is the next best option

  • Like you I had a pillow for many, many years that I did not want to part with. I finally bought myself a new one at the beginning of this year (same brand as the last one), and I hate it. I can’t get a good night’s sleep and I’ll most likely have to change brands. For my daughter, she usually attends school camps/excursions every two years and that’s when she takes her current pillow with her to use on the camp, and she comes home to a new pillow.

  • When looking for a new pillow (especially if going into a bedding store) give it a test run on a mattress that feels similar to your own. A pillow will feel different on different surfaces.

  • Just take good care of them – wash them frequently, leave them in the sun to dry and kill any dust mites or bacteria.

  • every year if cheapies. i wash them too but with littlies around, they need to be hygienic. i wash them very often.

  • I might just have to find a pillow that is as good as my 15 year old one :)

  • Important to give them a good air in the sun too – kills the nasties!

  • Change as needed – different brands last for longer periods.

  • Mine definitely much be an old pillow, cause there is no date lol
