Hello!

I have a 12 month old who is teething and just plain miserable with it. I don’t mind giving pain relief occasionally, but not all the time. I’ve heard about amber teething beads. Has anyone tried them and do they work? Any other natural remedies would also be useful!

  • Personally I wouldn’t because of safety concerns

  • Friends swear by them. But they’ve used them from the word go so can’t really compare to how things would be without one…

  • There have been more warnings about these products – so definitely research before buying and using with bubs.

  • Yes definitely!! They work wonders with teething pain and that’s the truth, it’s not a myth, they are brilliant!!!!

  • A friend of ours used one as she reckoned it kept her baby calm, even when she wasn’t teething. There has been several warnings about them being dangerous so she no longer uses it.

  • I used one with my daughter and i believe it helped a great deal! My son is only 5 months and is just starting to teeth. I am currently using an amber anklet on him as he has quite a chubby neck :p If you are unsure about them sleeping in a necklace just wrap it around their ankle at night and pop a sock over it to keep it on. I definitely think they have benefits. Also have you tried Hylands Teething Tablets? They are a homeopathic remedy!

  • I would suggest doing a lot of research online and also get information from your GP on using a teething necklace. Then you can make an informed choice once you know the pros and cons and possible benefits and hazards. Personally; have never used them as I am very aware and cautious about possible choking hazards.

  • I think they’re one of those things that work for some people and not for others. It seems to be an individual thing. I’d be inclined to give them a go but please, please be aware of the safety instructions and never let your child sleep with the necklace on.
I hope they bring your little one some comfort.

  • My first I used it with and I thought they were good but I realise now I just had a good tether. My second I didn’t bother with and he was fine. Some people swear by them but I am not convinced. They look cute on and I think that is probably the only benefit!

  • I read an article that said there’s no scientific proof that they actually work.
Try a Sophie the giraffe!!! They are fantastic!

  • Please don’t let your bub sleep with one on! I actually know of some people that lost their precious little one because of this :(

  • Me personally I haven’t tried one on my 2 girls as I really worry about them Breaking it or choking. But I have a friend who swears by it.

  • Yes, they also work to keep Mum calm if Mum wears one to.
I did notice my baby drooles more when wearing them, which may provide some teething relief.
The other Mums have highlighted the potential dangers. But I found they were great during the day and take it off for a sleep and at night.

  • Yes I used one for my son and it was amazing! He was having a really tough time teething and one day it was just awful, I bought an amber necklace and within 24hrs he was a happy little boy and never had much issued after. I also think it helps with anger and emotions. My little boy was so wonderful having the amber but as soon as I took it off he was a terror! It took him a couple weeks to settle, he was fine after and back to his normal self.

  • I would say go for it! We have had great success with them and no safety issues at all. Wrap it around their ankle if you’re worried.
