SICILY.
Veronica Panarello was sentenced to 30 years jail for the murder and concealment of her 8-year-old son, Loris Stival. Panarello strangled her son with electrical cables before dumping his body in a remote gully in Santa Croce, Sicily, near where the family lived.
She initially tried to cover up the crime by telling investigators that he had been abducted in November of 2014.
Panarello told police that she had dropped her son off at school, but that he had vanished by the time she returned to collect him in the afternoon. However, police began to suspect Panarello of murder when the school’s closed-circuit TV footage did not coincide with her version of events.
Loris’ body was finally discovered by a hunter in Santa Croce, and an autopsy revealed that he had a massive head wound as well as others around his neck and to his body.
When Panarello confessed to the murder of her son, she blamed her former lover and husband’s father, Andrea Stival.
It is reported that she told an earlier hearing that Andrea had helped to plot and carry out the murder after he caught the two having sex.
Andrea Stival vehemently denies the affair, saying ‘It is just another lie of that crazy woman.’ and has threatened to sue his daughter-in-law for slander.
Stival also denied any role in the boy’s death, adding: ‘That accusation is something completely out of this world. I went mad for my grandson, my little angel. Now there’s a need for peace and justice. My stomach turned upside down, downgrading a grandfather’s love.’
Stival is being investigated as an accessory to his grandson’s murder.
