Police officer called to scene of his worst nightmare

A NSW police officer is in shock after being called to a fatal car crash and discovering his worst nightmare.

Sergeant Steven Underhill of Richmond Police arrived at the scene of an accident to find his four-year-old daughter had been killed in the collision. His two-year-old daughter was critically injured.

“He was speechless. He was so shocked and upset. He wanted to know what had happened,” witness Tazman Currie told The Courier-Mail. “He tried desperately to help but was suffering shock”, Ms Currie said.

The two-year-old girl was flown to Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, in Brisbane, where her condition had improved on Sunday morning.

The children’s 18-year-old babysitter received minor injuries. “She didn’t really care about herself. She wanted the girls to be OK,” Ms Currie said.

Our hearts go out to the family. Such a shocking story so close to Christmas.

My prayers are with this mans family, he is out there protecting the community and this is the last thing youd expect while at work. Sadly his workplace is out in the community so he would see not very nice things.

Couldn’t imagine anything worse than this. Do hope the policeman is starting to get over the trauma for his and his younger daughter’s sake.
