Easy Date Scones


Ingredients (makes 8 Scones)

  • 2 Cups self raising flour
  • 1 tspn baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 tspn sugar
  • 1 tblsp butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped dates
  • 1 small egg, beaten
  • 150ml milk

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees C. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar into a large bowl. Rub in butter until mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the chopped dates.
  2. Combine the egg and milk in a jug. Stir into the flour mixture to make a soft sticky dough. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 30 seconds or until just smooth.
  3. Cut the dough into about 8 squares or rounds, brush tops with a little milk and place on a tray.Bake about 10-15 minutes or until golden.
  4. You can use an assortment of jams or just butter

  • Yum ! We often make scones with dates, figs and raw unsalted pistachio’s, my kids love it.


    • Or walnuts/pecans with dates is also yum !

  • I love date scones. I’ve never made them as I buy them from Bakers Delight. But at nearly $2 each, I think I can try making them with this recipe!

  • I tend to buy these on the odd occasion from Bakers Delight at $2 a pop. I do love a scone but had not considered making this version. My hubby makes a mean and yummy scone. I might share this recipe with him!!
