Miss 2.6 and I have been growing oats that were sent to us and a lot of other people, from Uncle Tobys.you post photos on their Facebook page or instagram, and you have the chance to win prizes
my toddler is so involved, she planted the seeds, she waters them. We put them out in the sun during the day, and bring them inside for the night to protect them from the morning frosts.
Every morning we both run and check how much they have grown.
it’s great fun and is a great learning experience for us both.
Is any one else participating, in home grown oats?

  • I didn’t know anything about them. I’m heading to Uncle Toby’s Facebook page to check it all out though. What do you do with the oats once they’re ready?

  • I didn’t even know it was possible to grow oats. We’re in cold climate in Australia so I’m not sure it would work here… What’s your climate like? We eat so much porridge it would be worth it if we could!

  • Our grandson was given a packet of grass seed & an egg carton decorated & painted as a caterpillar to grow the seeds in when he went recently to his kindergarten orientation day. He chose me to water & nuture the seed & I got a real kick when I was able to report to him that it sprouted!

    • My little cousin was given a bean seed at the end of a school term to water so it would shoot then grow. They went away so it shot but didn’t live for too long.

  • Its a great experience for the kids to have. But what are you going to do with them once they are fully grown. With my kids they tend to die off when they forget about them or loose interest
