Hello!

I had a phone call from my sons school today advising that his hand was injured while in class and that I should get him checked out. I frantically picked him up to find his small little hand all swollen and very sore. Rushed him to doc to get referral and then to X-ray and thankfully it’s just very bad swelling and bruising and no break . What I can’t believe is that it only took a friend of his to accidentally step on it while they were making their way to sit on the mat. Could have been so much worse but thankfully its not.

  • Yes, it is worrying when the school rings you. Your first thought is always that your child has been hurt or is sick. It is so easy for them to get hurt, especially out in the yard. They can accidentally collide with another child and fall over. I did that, landed face down and got a greenstick fracture in one arm. It could quite easily have been both arms. I know of children who have fallen down off playground equipment because they missed a step and fell to the ground. one child missed at step at the bottom on the monkeybars. One sung herself too high on the swings, lost her grip on the rope, fell off and knocked herself on her head.

  • Luckily enough i have never had a scarey phone call from the school like that, they have always started with dont worry there is nothing wrong.. But at home i have found that awful things can happen so easily..

  • Our school usually starts calls with “there’s nothing wrong!” If it’s routine.

  • Some time the most innocuous of incident can result in a major injury. Can never be too careful so it was great that the school contacted you.
