Hello!

my son started daycare this week in preparation for my return to work after maternity leave. I needed to get some extra bottles for his milk and also some more clothes for him. With my first child I had not discovered the fabulous world of “buy/swap/sell” sites on Facebook but was introduced to them this time. These sites offer an incredible opportunity to save money. I was able to buy 5 of the brand of bottles I use for $5 and got all of the clothes I needed for daycare for $30, that was 5 long sleeve tops, a hoodie and 5 pairs of pants all in great condition..
To offset the purchases I sold some of the clothes my son had outgrown for $20!
I highly recommend trying to see if there is a local group for buy/swap/sell of child specific items in your area. It has saved me a fortune!

  • They are pretty good. Just need to make sure you check the items before handing cash over for electrical goods etc. I browse my local ones once a week. Also do op shops once a week. Its amazing what you can find. Some people do charge too much for items while others sell things very cheap- you just need to know your prices. I keep a book where I write the family needs for each month and tick them off as they are purchased. Also the rural op shops are much cheaper than the city ones. I often find kids clothing for $2 a piece out rural.

    • Wow! I love how organised you are! I might have to start a notebook.

  • I love buying from the buy/swap/sell pages! I also sell a lot of my stuff on there, I may not get as much as I would like for my stuff, like I would selling on ebay, but it is a great place to sell lcal

  • I need this now, my son goes through so many clothes at childcare (he is so messy compared to my daughter) I find myself having to send him with two full sets of clothes each day. So I need to buy him new clothes as he does not have nearly enough. I definitely will get on to this.

    • I know what it feels like! I think you can do searches on FB for the groups but also ask other mums you know as some are “secret” and invitation only.

  • You can certainly bag a bargain on those Facebook pages sometimes. i remember my first purchase was a Veebee playpen, usually $200+ retail and i paid $70 for one second hand, having only been purchased to use at a birthday party! Bargain! i think the most unfortunate thing about these pages is that people put prices on that are much too high for a “garage sale” page. if you are only going to drop a couple of $$ off a shop price then i may as well pay the extra couple of $$ for a new one.
