I am on a mission today to buy Secret Santa presents. I need to find two Secret Santa presents, $5 and $10 each. I might buy novelty items and I am might buy something nice? I am buying for a wide range of possible personality types and as it is a lucky dip Secret Santa and it makes it very interesting. I have received some interesting and fun Secret Santa presents over the years. My favourite being Christmas baubles, a light up Christmas tree and a novelty chocolate dispenser!

  • With big families at Christmas somebody suggested that all names went into a hat. Whoever you pulled out you bought the Christmas Present for to a value of $……… It was to be done early in the new year to give people the opportunity to save and buy the present during a sale. It meant one person bought one present; not have to find something for every person.

  • I once received something tacky from a Secret Santa which had been re-gifted. (The clue was the gift tag underneath the item with my boss’ name on it). I pretended that I really liked the present so I didn’t hurt his feelings, but to be honest, my feelings were hurt by this gift.
    My advice? Buy something nice.

  • I like to buy small home wares (like a mortar and pestle) on sale, and save them for extra nice secret Santa pressures that are still in budget.

  • No it wasn’t! We eventually worked out who it was and asked them to refrain from re gifting out of date unwanted presents, hope she listens

  • This is a great idea. Luxury soap and shower gel is nice to give and receive.

  • That is fun. I’ve got some interesting ones too but I much prefer the “nice” ones. My favourite was a while china egg cup and cover

  • Secret Santa only works if everyone does it in good will – whether the present is novelty or more standard, it has to be new! I quite like Secret Santa.

    • Absolutely! It has to be done in a festive way and with good will. :)

  • I love the lucky dip secret Santa idea. I’ve only experienced secret Santa where everyone name goes into a hat and you pull a name out, that’s who you buy for. There’s always a spending limit, which is good. But it’s hard if you don’t really know or like the person, worse if the person with your name doesn’t like you! Last year i got a drink making gift that was over 12 months out of date!!! That was just rude, mother obviously just went through their cupboard for something they didn’t want for it to be so out of date

    • Our Secret Santa is a mystery, no idea of the recipient of your gift! Out of date food/drink now that is poor form!
