  • Oh dear that sounds frustrating! We’ve just started toilet training NY 18 month old but we’ll take it slow. He freaks out a bit pooing in the potty (which I hear is pretty normal) but undy poos is a tricky one!
Try a week of sitting him in the toilet/potty straight after and say ‘oops we do poos in the potty not undies, we pull undies down to poo then put them back on’ and sit on the toilet for half a minute. Good luck and share if you find a good tactic!!!!

  • When he does it try putting the nappy on and telling him that he can’t wear undies because big boys don’t do poo in their pants… you know, explaining why he needs to use the toilet because he is a big boy. My friend had the same problem but her son was getting ready to go to kindy (at that age) and she said he couldn’t go because they only take kids that go to the toilet. He was toilet trained so quickly after that because he wanted to go to kindy.

  • will he do wees in the toilet ?? or is it both hes doing in his pants? i found with my sound i put a ping pong ball in the toilet and told him he had to try and wee on that and he thought that was great …. and i think because the toilet became a fun thing than he was more relaxed and happy to do poos on the toilet too :) good luck

  • There is a toilet training monkey with a toilet that flushes you can buy on line.. this monkey tells you when it needs to go to the toilet, and your son has to take him, if he doesn’t the monkey has an accident and gets upset, this might help your son.. just google it, I got my from the US and it cost $65, but within two weeks my daughter stopped having accidents.. good luck

  • It takes time and persistence. Is there an amazing toy that you could buy and tell him that he only gets it when he hasn’t had an accident for a week. By then he would be used to the toilet and maybe your problem would be over. Good luck, its a frustrating time.

  • Yes and hopefully by wearing the nappy when he goes out he will realise he wants to be a “big boy” and not wear it anymore and start doing poos in the toilet. Great advice Articwynter! Boys often take a lot longer to train. I remember my three brothers took forever.

  • I’m in the process of toilet training my 3 and a half year old too! He will do wees on the toilet but refuses to do a poo on the toilet he holds on all day until we put a nappy on him or he does it when he is in the bath which is so gross!! Its very frustrating I can totally relate to how you feel. Our oldest did the same thing and one day he just started going on the toilet instead of his nappy and in his pants! Mayen they just need time to figure out that it’s alright to go on the toilet! I think a lot of kids have a bit of a fear of doing number twos on the toilet! Good luck with it all!!

  • Good luck – I have no advice, I’m struggling with toilet training myself!

  • I had one that loved toilet paper and I made it they could only touch it when they pooed in the potty. So we gave them their own roll of toilet paper and than found hit hard to get them off the potty as at times they wanted to rip off some toilet paper so they would be sitting there trying. Just remember jocks are easy to wash and if you have to go out than they must wear a nappy as he won’t poo in the potty or toilet. I have found with my kids that is always the last one to get down pat

  • I had the same problem with my son last year and all we told our son that the toilet is where you poo not your pants and we just kept taking him to the toilet every hour and sat him on it. It was hard for the first few weeks but it did work and he now has stopped I wish you good luck hun sorry I wasn’t more of a help.
