Does anyone have any suggestions on how to save for a holiday as we have not had a holiday for about 8 years and desperately need a break as we are only a one income family and with so many bills coming in I know that a holiday is sounding a little extravagant but we need to reconnect as a family again Many thanks

  • We don’t spend our gold coins and pop them away in a safe place, you’d be surprised how quickly the amount adds up, also cut back where you feel you can.

  • Pay your bills as per your pay cycle (weekly/fortnightly). Don’t wait for the quarterly bill to arrive. Make your meals at home, take leftovers for lunch, spare change into a money box and cut back on excess toys, clothes, pay TV, mobiles etc. it’s amazing where you can save. And maybe clean out the garage – you might find a few things to sell in ebay and gumtree, or even hold a garage sale, with all the proceeds going to the long awaited trip.

  • Have you looked into just going away camping ??
we bought a camper trailer was about $4000 and now we can go away anytime we want, its roughly $50 a night for a powered site at a caravan park, we find it great and on many times have just picked the kids up from school on the friday and gone camping for a few days.

  • As ARCTICWYNTA said, collect your spare change each day. You’ll be surprised how quickly it adds up.
When I was working I saved money but taking my lunch and drinks to work with me instead of buying it each day. I saved $40/week.

  • I put every bit of change in a money box. I will not use it to pay for any thing as it to go in the money box. We do it and we have a goal for the money and once have done that the saving starts again for our next goal
