The family of one punch victim Thomas Kelly are again dealing with the loss of Thomas’ younger brother, Stuart Kelly.

Stuart Kelly, 19, took his own life in Sydney’s Northern Beaches and his body was found on Monday.

The teenager lost his brother, Thomas Kelly, in 2012 to a one punch attack when he was 14 years old. Since then he became an avid campaigner for lockout laws, which he reportedly received abuse and bullying for online in the years since his brother passed away.

At a gala dinner for the Thomas Kelly foundation last year Stuart said “I look back at that moment: I was 14 years old, I was told by a stranger that my brother, my best friend, was going to die. Those few words would change my life forever,”

“It’s always there, it never leaves. It sits below the surface of your skin and surfaces when you least expect it.

“Tom never deserved to die that night, it was not meant to be his time; in fact I now believe that it could and should have been avoided.”

  • I feel so sorry for these parents – it is hard enough to lose one son, let alone two – and at such a young age for both of them when they had their whole life ahead of them. Coward punches should really be vilified by the courts, but the social media has a lot to atone for in the loss of the younger boy. RIP both of you teenagers – and my thoughts for the parents are inconsolable. I only lost one child, and that was hard enough.

  • My heart goes out to the Kelly family, I know first hand what it is like to lose all the sons in your family. Instead of them having one guardian angel to look after the family and keep them safe, they now have two. God bless them.

  • this is so sad for him and for his family. The inner pain he must have been going through driving him to loose hope and to want to end the grief and pain. A tragic loss for family too as their boys no longer with them. The repocussions of a one punch agrument will resonate with all who have children growing up in what often appears as hostile angry world. A friend of mines son punched a guy for coming on to his girlfriend and he banged his head hard. He was still alive when reached hospital but due to him being inebiated tey left him in corner to deal with other ‘more important cases. He died never coming arond. Question is would he still be alive if earlier intervention? no one knows. My friends son took himself to policestation confessed and did time for a fluke insident.. So affects many livess. My sincere condolences to family. One of my sons and I am glad he is alive

  • This is just truly too heartbreaking and sad for one family to endure. Cyberbullies have a lot to answer for. My thoughts are so with the Kelly family.
