Max Delmege, 70 and 32-year-old Samantha Green tied the knot five years after meeting at a friend’s funeral. Now they are facing the unknown as they try for a baby together.

Despite their 39-year age gap, the Sydney couple’s relationship has gone from strength to strength as they prepare to start a family.

Appearing on Channel Nine’s A Current Affair the pair open up about their marriage and their IVF battle.

Shrugging off the age gap between her and the former Manly Sea Eagles owner, Ms Green defended herself against critics, who have hit out at the pair’s big age gap.

‘Age is no barrier,’ Ms Green told the Nine Network.

‘If you happen to find someone you adore, why not? I feel so relaxed with Max … Max is a great guy, he is the best person I have ever met.’

With almost four decades apart in age, the loved-up newlywed duo have revealed they are trying to have a baby together.

‘Couldn’t think of anything better,’ Mr Delmege said.

The couple’s first attempt at IVF sadly failed, but they are determined to give it another go.

Sam has been sharing all her highs and lows on her blog.

She wrote… “excitement quickly turned to the worst phone call I could receive. I was told in a blunt way that out of 6 eggs 4 of them were strong, but none had fertilised. She said she would keep them for another 24hours to see but it’s never happened before and we would need a miracle. I cried and cried.

Max and I hugged each other like we never have before and we didn’t want to let go. We were both feeling the emotion, like our hearts had been ripped out, our dream was NOT going to become a reality and our hope was gone. We just cried together.

I layed in bed all day. So sad. No one quite understands what it feels like unless you go through the process.”

We wish them all the best and hope they get the good news they want to hear very soon.

  • It’s really none of anyone else’s business what these two do. If they’re happy and love each other more than anything, then that’s beautiful. All the best to them.

  • I don’t know what to think about this. 70 years old….

  • I hope they have a happy life together even if the IVF doesnt’ work. A friend of mine went through nine cycles of IVF and was unsuccessful. Her marriage also broke down as a result.

  • The IVF road is such a tough road to take.
Sometimes there are quite a few negative results but you get there in the end and sometimes sadly its just not meant to be. its sad but with a couple that has such a big age gap and can prove impossible to adopt also.

    • I am sure they won’t be able to adopt because of Max’s age unless the laws have been relaxed. I know a couple who had one son but due to injury during the delivery, the Mum couldnt have another baby. They applied to adopt but were told by the time the first possibly occured that one of them would be over they age limit.

  • I wish all the best for them. Not that I know personally but IVF is a gruelling emotional journey. It isn’t something you do unless you want that child and this shows that this child will be loved. I hope this ends happily for them
