ABC News have reported a 12-year-old girl has been charged with attempted murder after an incident at a school in Caboolture north of Brisbane on Monday morning.

Police said the girl threatened another girl, 12, with a knife just after 9:00am.

A struggle between the two followed, resulting in minor injuries to the victim’s neck and hands.

A member of staff stepped in and took the knife from the alleged attacker.

Police said the girl would appear in court under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

More details to come.

As a mum of a nearly twelve year old boy, this kind of news really freaks me out. Maybe I have sheltered myself and my children too much?

This is not something I want to hear of a grade five/six student. They should still be playing chasings and painting their nails. Not carrying knives around.

  • I think there are so many things at play in how children behave.
When I was a child you were taught to respect other adults, the policem your teachers, etc. If an adult told you off you were worried they would tell your parents and you would get into trouble again. Now I see parents jumping to say how innocent their child is and not allowing anyone to pull their child up on bad behaviour. I know of an instance where a child spat at another child and when the child that spat was told off his mother jumped to his defence. Spitting at people is not acceptable yet she felt it was ok for her kid to act that way.

  • This is very disturbing.

  • It certainly does make you wonder why a little girl of that age would behave like that, what is going on at home etc etc. This is terrible.

  • What a super scary story, it does put a damper on the so many positive things our children do.

  • Times has changed I reckon. Kids grow up too fast. Maybe it is the influence of the digital world.

  • Makes me wonder what kind of upbringing this child has had – an investigation into her home life needs to be done.

  • Sadly Violence & disrespect are paramount in society today.
    1. Children are taught in schools from an early age that they Do Not Have to do anything they don’t like! and this has bred contempt disrespect & laziness and Parents rights to discipline .
    2. With all the violence etc plastered all over media of all kinds – has desensitised our society from the horror of such violence .
    3. Australia is a very weakly governed country and has no consistency nor real justice.
zero tolerance on all these things should be adapted immediately !

  • Sadly this is happening due to schools turning a blind eye to bulling …. making a bully apologize isn’t going to stop the bulling and it certainly doesn’t do ANYTHING for the victim and the trauma and depression that is to follow…another thing is the huge waiting list with every school for the psychologist to see all the students that need a psychologist at the school, and no its not as simple as the parent taking a child to see a psychologist, the point of the psychologist going to the school is familiarity for the victim not a daunting new place.
The government needs to to have more psychologists available in schools and highschools as the current way is just not working!

  • It’s incredibly disturbing the spike in violence related incidents of late, especially when perpetrated by children. I wish I knew the answer.

  • What drives a 12 year old girl to act out like this. What has happened or what has she seen to make her do something like this. My heart goes out to all those involved.

  • Totally crazy!

  • OMG, I don’t know what I’ll hear next. I’ve certainly not heard of this before involving such young children. Thank God the child didn’t end up more seriously hurt.
