On Monday, a two-year-old girl was found unresponsive in a car in Guildford and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
Tragically, the little girl passed away overnight and it’s expected charges laid against 22-year-old Mohammed Khazma, a man known to the child’s mother, will be upgraded to murder.
Police allege Mr Khazma physically assaulted the child at a Guildford granny flat, before the little girl’s mother carried her out and drove to a relative’s home 4km away, instead of calling an ambulance.
The woman was heard screaming “your son has killed my daughter” outside the house before paramedics rushed to help the critically injured girl inside the car.
Glen Parks, Acting Superintendent, has described Monday’s events as “shocking”.
“It is a human instinct to care for the young and the vulnerable and when instances like this occur it is often very difficult to comprehend. Any incident like this is very difficult.”
The child’s mother is assisting police with their investigations, which will be “a long process”.
Sending our thoughts to the family of the little girl at this incredibly difficult time.
