Savannah chats to 911 as dad suffers chest pains. She stays completely calm and reassures her dad that everything will be fine.

“My dad can’t hardly breathe” … “You need to come real fast!”

Savannah can be heard saying “Don’t worry dad!”

The dispatcher gets her to ask daddy questions about how he is feeling. Savannah does well to keep him awake.  “So far, so good!”

She tells the dispatcher “We’re in our jammies, and I’m in tank top, so I’ll have to get dressed”.

“I don’t know what I’m gonna wear… but he really needs oxygen real fast”

“So far, so good!”

  • Well done! Children are simply amazing and we need to make sure they know these numbers and their details.

  • I think any child that can stay calm and talk their way through the questions is amazing. A reminder to teach our kids, that if anything happens to make that call (which as an adult, to call 000 is a frightening experience for anyone)

  • It is most important that your child know how to call emergency how to at least give some details. It is also that your child know their address, preferrably before they are old enough to start kindergarten or school; also the name of the person they are with if possible.
When they are old enough there is also Junior First Aid Courses available in some places. I know an 8 year old who joined St. Johns Ambulance Junior Cadets. They teach them very basic first aid the first few weeks to get them used to handle equipment, progress to higher standards after that. During the first year they may attend some events under the strict supervision of fully trained adult volunteers. Ours has cleaned abrasions and applied bandaids, also a bandage on one occasion supervised by 2 officers. I love the I have to get dressed bit…..time to do that while the patient is being assessed and initial treatment started.

  • I taught my kids the number 000 when they were young and thankfully never had to use it. It is wonderful how she stays calm as it is the best way when faced with an emergency so communication is clear on the phone . What a brave girl .

  • Great job Savannah, you did really well. Praying for dad do hope he is recovering well.

This is why we all need to teach our children how to call 000 and what to say, in this case 911 also very important to teach children their address as well.
