Do you make New Years Resolutions? One of the most common resolutions is to be ‘more organised’!

For many people that includes a photo organising project. A project to finally get those boxes of photos out of the garage for a sort through or to get them off your phone and into a photo book.

Unfortunately, there are millions of photo losses every year. They are from natural disasters, technology failures, digital ‘accidents’ and even theft, and we don’t want you to become part of these sad statisticsWe are sure you want your memories to be organised so you can utilise and enjoy them, and also protect them.

If you had $200, $2,000? $20,000 would you use it to pay to someone to save your photos for you? If you were faced with an emergency situation (bush fire, flood etc) and your photo collection was about to be destroyed would you consider paying every cent you have and more to save your precious memories? Most people we speak to agree that their photos and other memorabilia are irreplaceable and priceless!

People tell us all the time that they have been planning a photo organising project… for the New Year, a rainy day, for their retirement, after the kids leave home, some day, one day… you name it we’ve heard it. We also hear them admit that the rainy day has come and gone and they still haven’t got around to the project and sadly in some cases it is too late… after a disaster strikes.

Your Story Matters and Organise Utilise Enjoy are organising guides that can help you understand your collection and give you insider tips and tricks to get started and work through a photo organising project on your own. You can even spend some of your hours putting your photos into a scrapbook or coffee table book, which will not only allow you to showcase your creative talents, but put your wonderful moments proudly on display.

  • I think a plan and starting is the key. especially if you have hundreds of photos as it can be overwhelming.

  • We safe everything on the computer regularly on a hard drive. I have numerous photo albums from my youth and some old pictures which aren’t on the computer, same for old letters and cards from beloved ones who don’t dwell on earth anymore. These things have an enormous emotional value indeed.

  • Some of the photos I have were passed down from earlier generations to my Mum before me and put in a case. Rather unorthodox way of storing them temporarily. At the moment I would only have to grab the case.

  • Love my photo collection and it would be the first thing I would take in an emergency.

  • No. But I do have them all in the one spot, so in case of emergency, I know exactly where to go to save them

  • I have a big hard drive and save photos by year, month, date. I need to look into getting photos scanned so I can have a digital copy.

    • Year, month, date is a great convention to use, well done. We have 4 different scanners, be sure to get in touch if you need any help with special scanning.

  • Our photos are well organised and we also cull digital images as way too many get taken.

    • staying on top of excess is important, no one needs 50 shots of a toddlers nostril! Keep up the good work

  • Taking digital copies of all the old, old photos that have been handed down to me to keep for future generations is my goal this year and to keep them in a safe place, why not a coffee table book.

    • We just completed a project like this for a client! There were tears of joy! I am sure you will cherish a book to share

  • Having no photos of my youth or of my family before 1974 due to been lost to house problems. I would pay lots to get copies from someone of these. As for the ones I have now it is a matter of trying to sort through them and deciding which to keep.

    • Sorry to hear of your loss. Good to hear you are motivated to protect the ones you have now.

  • I like to out the best ones in a photo book I design online, then the family can enjoy the memories. I also like the mental piece of mind that my photo book projects are available for reorder, therefore it’s like another back up,

    • We love photo books as an extra back up. We always say that you might not be able to read a jpeg file in 50years but people will still have hands and eyes to pick up and look at a book. Keep up the good work.

  • Yes, photo’s are very dear to me as well. The last couple of years I’ve been less organized with my photo’s and only have made scrapbooks for kids we temporary foster. It sure is nice to make scrapbooks but so time-consuming.

    • Have you tried Web based photo book software? They can be pretty quick and easy if your photos are in some semblance of order.

  • I have some of my great grandparents photos and some of the negatives are on glass. So they are extremely precious to me.

    • Glass negatives are a rare beauty you are lucky to have that piece of history. Make sure to get a back up of it.
