Most of the time when people think of using a tablecloth, they think of using it as a table covering, but tablecloths can be used for a variety of different things. Tablecloths add to the decoration of a table or even a room, but it can also be used to decorate other areas or items in the house. You just need to use some creativity and you can beautifully, and at a low cost, decorate your house with tablecloths.

Tablecloths are manufactured from different kinds of materials, including cotton, vinyl, linen and silk. The different types of material allow for the tablecloths to be used for different occasions as well as different uses. Tablecloths are already stitched and ready to go so many different projects can be completed with these ready-made materials.

Here are 5 unique uses for tablecloths.

1. Curtains

Most people have curtains in their homes to decorate their windows. Curtains are used to beautify or dress up the window, but can be pretty expensive depending on the type of material used and the size of the window. You can save a lot of money transforming your tablecloths into a curtain.

Another problem with curtains is that it can be difficult to find the perfect print or colour. But you can easily find a tablecloth in any color for a much lower price, including at a thrift store. Even if you have to sew together a couple of tablecloths to fit the window, it can be done in a decorative and nice way to dress your window.

With this project, a tablecloth is already stitched and ready to go. To create a basic curtain, all you would need to do is cut a small hole at the top of two corners of the tablecloth, run a curtain rod through and you have a new curtain! If you are talented at sewing, you can create curtains with tabs or an actual pocket to give the curtain a more custom design.

2. Napkins

Tablecloths can also be used for napkins. This can really help you save money on buying table decorations. Not to mention, many tablecloths are made out of more durable material than paper napkins and this helps them last longer. All you need to do is cut the tablecloth to the size of the napkin you want. It doesn’t have to be the same size as most napkins are, but whatever size you need. Once you have cut the tablecloth to the size you want, all you need to do is fold it. If you are talented, you can choose to sew the napkin to give it a finished look or use fusible tape. Since tablecloths come in different types of material, you can use tablecloth napkins for different occasions.

3. Place mats

Tablecloths can be used as place mats too. The tablecloth would be cut down to cover the size of the plate. This can be done for informal occasions and especially when kids are around. Depending on the occasion, you can find different designs and materials for the type of place mat you want to use. Again, you can save money using tablecloths as place mats.

4. Dish towels

Another money saver for tablecloths is to use them as dish towels. This works best for cotton or polyester tablecloths. All you do is cut the tablecloth to the size of the dish towel you desire and in a short time you will have multiple dish towels. You can even choose to cut down an old tablecloth to create a washrag for your vehicles!

5. Bibs

If you are really creative, you can create bibs from tablecloths. Of course, you would use a cotton or polyester (be careful of allergies) tablecloth for this purpose. You will cut the tablecloth down to the size of the bib you need. You will need to sew strings for the tablecloth so it can wrap around and tie it in place. This doesn’t take long and it can really save money buying bibs for your children!

All of these ideas can be used for the existing tablecloths in the home to give new life to existing materials. Use your imagination and you will be able to think of even more ways to use tablecloths in the home!
