A QLD mother-of-four has praised her eight year old son, who baked his little brother’s fourth birthday cake all by himself while she was in bed with the flu.
When single mum Celestina Savage, from Queensland, fell ill with the flu on the day of her son Josiah’s fourth birthday she was concerned she wouldn’t be able to prepare the perfect party for him.
But Ms Savage’s eldest child Jayden, eight, stepped up to the plate and baked and decorated an impressive cake in the shape of the number four while she took time out to rest.
‘On Sunday it was my son’s fourth birthday. I was so sick with the flu and being a single mother of four I was breaking down. I felt so bad I couldn’t create my son’s party,’ she explained in a Facebook group.
‘So my eight-year-old stepped up as the man of the house and helped to bake his brother a birthday cake.
‘All he asked me to do is turn the oven on, put it in and take it out. I only cut out a sheet of cardboard because he wanted to make the number four.
‘It was so beautiful to sit there and watch him and if I tried to help he’d say “Mum move I’ve got this!” ‘I’m so proud of my son.’
Speaking to FEMAIL, Ms Savage said he baked the cake in a tin and cut around the cardboard ‘four’ to make the shape once it was cooled.
‘Then he tells me the icing sugar is too hard… he kept putting too much milk in so I said to try a bit of butter,’ she said.
‘It was his first time making a cake but we are always baking and cooking… it’s the only way they are going to learn when they grow up.’
Many mums commented on her post praising the little boy for his good work while others dubbed him a ‘talented young baker’.
Well done, Jayden! What a little legend and a fantastic big brother x
