Disney’s live-action remake of Aladdin had a huge opening weekend at the box office, and mums are also raving about it!

The big-budget ($186 million) live-action remake of the 1992 animated classic took in an estimated $86.1 million for its three-day opening weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.

Aladdin earned mixed reviews from critics, with a 58% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but it fared much better with moviegoers, according to Daily Mail.

ComScore’s PostTrak general audience survey revealed that 67% of movie goers would recommend Aladdin to their friends.

‘Aladdin’ is performing exactly the way we were hoping,’ said Disney distribution chief Cathleen Taff. ‘We should see strong performance in the coming weeks as we get into the summer season.’

Mums have their say

We asked our audience what they thought of the movie and the reviews were glowing.

Rochelle said, “My hubby took our older little ones and they absolutely adored it!!!”

Katie said, ” Saw it on opening night. I held little expectatio, as I loved the cartoon. But it was AMAZING. Would watch it every day!”

Kylie said, “I was dubious about it from the start! Being my fav growing up, and as much as I love Will Smith, I didn’t think it could compare – especially not to Robin Williams! But I’m glad I went! It was brilliant for sure! The whole cast did an amazing job, and Will Smith made the genie his own! Definitely recommend anyone to watch.”

Linda said, “Will Smith was great! Very entertaining even to my 14 and 12 year olds!”

Maria said, “Took my daughter yesterday and we thought that it was phenomenal. Half way through the movie I told my daughter that we were buying the DVD as soon as it’s released. We absolutely loved it.”

  • This will be a hit for me simply because Will Smith is in it. He is an unreal actor and an amazing human being. One of my favourites

  • I love the original so would love to see this version. R.I.P. Robin Williams, would be hard to top his incredible talent and voice of the genie.

    • The animated Disney version with Robin Williams is indeed fabulous in every way.
