A photo of little Teddy went viral on Tuesday after his mum shared a picture of her son’s heartache after he learned none his friends were coming to his sixth birthday party.

Teddy handed out invitations to 32 of his classmates to last weekend’s party at a pizza restaurant, but none of the children showed up.

The boy’s mother posted a picture to Facebook of a heartbroken Teddy surrounded by pizza and two rows of empty table settings at the restaurant in Tucson, Arizona.

Teddy’s mum told Fox News she had made 32 goodie bags for him to hand out to his classmates with an invitation to his party, and she even spoke to some of the children’s parents who said their children would come.

But in a heartwarming development, two professional sporting teams have stepped in to cheer Teddy up.

The Phoenix Suns NBA team have gone above and beyond for the heartbroken six-year-old whose classmates ditched his birthday party.

The picture caught the attention of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Rising soccer team, who offered the birthday boy free tickets to celebrate with them at upcoming games.

The Suns welcomed Teddy and his family to watch Wednesday’s game (local time) against the LA Lakers, while Rising’s vice president said Teddy will be at Friday’s game.

Do you think the blame falls on parents or the kids for not committing to the little boys party?

  • I remember some parents not bothering to RSVP and not showing up or showing up without letting me know they would be coming. Actually one year I had a child turn up that hadnt been invited and had taken another childs invite and even though it was addressed to another child the Mum brought their child anyway.

  • This is just heartbreaking for the little man.

  • So sad for the little boy. Surely there were RSVP’s? Not that that guarantees people would turn up (speaking from experience) but it’s horrid to think that NO-one would come after saying they would.

  • The Mum should have ensured she received RSVPs even if she did some follow ups herself. Did she at some point switch her phone off or fail to answer or check it?

  • And of course the parents would post to social media. Who doesn’t get freebies after posting stuff like this online? Maybe it was all set up by the parents to get freebies

  • This is so sad, look at his little face, it breaks my heart. Maybe mum and dad should have focussed more on quality of guests and less on quality. Better to invite 2 or 3 friends and have them turn up then invite 20 or 30 and have none turn up

  • This poor poor little boy. No one should endure this. Maybe the boys parents have not clicked with the other parents…

  • That’s terrible if they said they would come then didn’t

  • Poor little guy. Shame on the parents of his classmates who decided to skip the party. No child should go through that.

  • This is very sad that no one turned up and I really feel for that little boy, but its even more sad that the parents had to plaster it all over the internet.

  • Awww so nice that the football teams stepped up. I feel for the kid as I have had this happen many a time – not quite to the extent of no one coming but certainly not many. My daughter handed out 10 invitations to her class mates and only 3 showed up – there was at least one other RSVP that just didn’t show and didn’t message as to why, nothing. I even had one case last year where I organised an amazing farm party and no one wanted to come. It was literally my brother’s kids who are older, and a couple others. She had one person the same age and my friend actually brought along her friend who we didn’t even know to help boost numbers a little as it was already paid for. Parents/kids these days are crap.

  • Absolutely. What kid doesn’t love a party. I find parents behaviour amazing when it comes to parties. What happened to a courteous and respectful RSVP. That has gone out the window and flows down to the kids too. And if your child doesn’t want to go, do the decent and respectful thing and let the family know. Imagine finding you and your child in this situation? No child should EVER be made to feel this way.

  • That’s really sad…I feel really bad for her.

  • I think it’s the parents who are at fault for saying their child would be there and not bothering to turn up. Thumbs up to the Phoenix Suns and the Phoenix Rising soccer team for going above and beyond to make this boys’ day. I hope this lessens the hurt of no-one turning up for his party.

  • I think the parents of the other children are to blame from not committing to a party they said they would go to. Strange though, that all 35 did show! I’m sure there is more to this story than meets the eye. Poor little mite though.
