Hello!

This blanket was made for my eldest daughter in a softer light ply wool so as to keep her warm but also so that it was lighter weight and softer to be wrapped around her when watching movies, chilling on a weekend or sitting in bed doing homework at night.

Material

  • 4x 350gram balls baby-soft wool 8ply
  • Set of 8mm knitting needles (preferably long or round knitting needles due to amount of stitches needed)

Method

  1. Cast on 300 stitches in rib and work up to 20 rows of rib.
Continue in stocking stitch to required length.
I did my blankets as a queen size bed blanket as 300 stitches gives that width.
  2. When desired length is reached, do the same amount of rows in rib stitch to finish as you did at the beginning.
    Cast off in rib.
Gently hand wash in warm water with small amount of softener.
While damp gently stretch blanket so cast off edge is an even width to the starting edge.
  3. Leave to dry flat in shade.

Notes

I used wool ordered from the Red Heart Wool website and also purchased from Big W stores for $10 for large 350gram balls.
However any 8ply wool would suit as this project was more about making a simple but warm and light weight blanket for my daughter to have something handmade with love by her mum.

I recently knitted a blanket for my young daughter….the first blanket I have ever knitted from start to finish. She loved it and there was something special about it being made by me for her.
