A cafe in NSW is turning heads with its “nurturing” smoothies that contain colostrum.

The Roadhouse in Byron Bay, serves up smoothies made with the thick, yellow liquid gold, excreted from the mammary glands of mammals straight after they give birth.

Known as the “Colostrum Shake”, the cafe blends up the “cool tonic” with coconut water, for just $8.

According to News.com.au the cafe introduced it’s followers to its colostrum smoothie in an Instagram post, which has since been deleted.

Describing the ingredient as “immune milk”, the Roadhouse claims the colostrum is Mother Nature’s first food for all mammals.

It has been determined that the cafe is referring to cow colostrum, rather than human colostrum, after reading that the shake was “Udderly delicious”.

Having a quick poke around the interwebs it appears they are certainly not alone with their idea of using colostrum as an ingredient.

Milk colostrum pudding! A.K.A. Junnu, Ginnu, Kharvas! . . For those of you who are too urban-chic and don’t know what that is, it is prepared using the colostrum milk that a cow produces for the first few days after it delivers a calf. It is rich in nutrients and absolutely delicious. However, it can’t be consumed unpasteurised or uncooked. . . Prep- The first produce after the new born calf has consumed is diluted with regular whole milk, jaggery, cardamom and pepper powder and steam cooked until firm. Once cooled down to room temperature, chill it in the fridge and gulp it down. . . Fun fact- Junnu at my home doesn’t last for more than a day ???????? . . #milkpudding #colostrummilk #junnu #kharwas #homemade #desserts #desserttable #dessertstagram #dessertstory #dessertrecipe #incredible_india #countrysidelife #countrysideandfarmlife #countryside #mumbaifoodie #gharkakhana #mommadefood #nomnom24x7 #pudding #flan #bakedflan #puddingoats #milkcake #andhrafoodie #dessertmasters #sweetooth #foodgasm #hyderabadfoodie

  • Wow… okay, I wonder if it all got deleted because they were being attacked by vegans.
Shouldn’t the calves be having this milk rather than the farmers extracting it ask to make a buck on something they think is different?!
Totally don’t agree with this at all!!!

  • Interested to know exactly what benefits it would have on adults. I know this is great for babies but I thought that’s as far as it went! Good old Byron Bay!

  • I’ll pass on this – babies need it, not adults.

  • Of course, only in Byron Bay!

  • I only drink milk in my coffee so I wouldn’t have this. Human colostrum is amazing for baby humans, I imagine cow colostrum is amazing for baby cows.

  • At first I thought it was human colostrum. But either way, why??

  • Ummm…. why? And, no thanks. What next?

  • Ummm … no thanks. Not for me ..

  • Ugh no thanks. Wonder if it has been passed by the health department

  • Um, no, I think I will pass.

  • Ew just too weird.

  • No.

  • Isn’t this great free advertising for them! How disgusting, it is clearly too rich for humans and only contributes to weight gain and clogged arteries.

  • Not at all interested in this but I am sure there are people who would be.

    Reply

  • oh right, I thought it was from a human
