The mum will share her C-section experience on Channel Seven’s groundbreaking new show.

A brave Aussie mum will have her C-section streamed live across the nation as part of Channel Seven’s new show Operation:Live. Scheduled to air on Sunday at 9pm, viewers will be given access into the operating theatre and get to experience the birth in real time!

All In The Planning

Those involved in the show say that every possible complication has been considered, and the patient’s safety kept as top priority. Dr Nikki Stamp, who will provide commentary for viewers as the operation is carried out, told New Idea that everything has been rigorously planned. “We can say with utter certainty with regards to the surgery and the production that every possible contingency has been thought of and put into place and we are all satisfied,” she said. “The patient’s safety is always at the forefront of our minds no matter what is going on.” We think this mum-to-be is incredible for being willing to share such a personal experience with the country!

First Time For Everything

A live C-section has never been shown on Australian TV before, so the show is truly the first of its kind. TVTonight reports that a live heart surgery will also go to air, with the birth to be shown first and take around 75 minutes. Dr Stamp believes that the show provides unique insight for viewers into these incredible medical procedures. “I think it is a wonderful opportunity to show the Australian public the amazing work that goes on in our hospitals every single day in this country,” she said.

So if you’re a little squeamish, maybe Channel Seven isn’t the place to be on Sunday night, but we think this is such a rare chance to share in an amazing, life changing moment with this mum.

  • It is sometimes difficult to predict when Heart Surgery will happen on schedule or be brought forward.

  • Sure, I think these things are very interesting. Only thing is I don’t watch television, so will probably miss it.

  • Don’t think I will watch – it will bring back too many painful memories.

  • I am interested as having never had one I don’t really know all that’s involved, can I actually physically watch it without fainting probably not lol! I cannot stand the sight of blood!

I think it is a brave thing to air and I really hope that people watch it and learn something from it. I think down the track they are doing an open heart surgery and that one I am really interested in watching – how they treat the heart and fix it will be very interesting to watch (through my eyes being covered as I am a little bit squeamish lol!)
