This mum was horrified when her fifteen-month-old daughter returned from her new daycare covered in twenty-five bite marks…

A mum has taken to Facebook to share her horror after her fifteen-month-old daughter returned from her new daycare covered in twenty-five bite marks. US mum Alice Bryant was inconsolable when she discovered the bites across her daughter Rosalynn’s back, and is yet to be told by staff or police what happened.

Waiting For Answers

Although she filed a complaint and police report, Alice says she is still waiting for answers almost two months later and took to social media to share her story. “No word and neither department contacted me with updates, and I signed up for victim notification,” she said. “All of these bites happened in one day – please share!” The accompanying picture shows her daughter’s back, with large red bite marks right across it. “There’s over twenty-five plus, it’s hard to tell,” Alice said. “It’s stomach turning. I feel both angry and sad at the same time.” Alice says that the thought of her daughter being in pain with no one to help her is sickening. “It takes some time to do that kind of biting and my daughter would have been very upset,” she said.

Not Uncommon

Unfortunately, it seems that Alice’s experience is not an uncommon one, with comments on her post recounting similar incidents at the same daycare centre. “My son went her over a year ago,” one mum wrote. “I honestly thought our experience was a fluke but it looks like nothing has changed.” “This makes me so angry,” a former daycare worker wrote. “I worked in a daycare centre for thirteen years – who in the hell would let this happen!”

This story is every parent’s worst nightmare. A child care centre is supposed to be a place where you can trust that your child is safe, happy and cared for so to have them return with such horrific injuries is completely unacceptable. We hope that Alice continues to fight for the answers she deserves.

  • This is disgraceful! I work in childcare and there is no way this could have happened if the workers were paying attention. The poor thing would have been screaming every time and even a child crying repeatedly should have raised concern. The first thing you should do if a child starts screaming and the cause is unknown is to conduct a head to toe check to look for signs of injury. I just don’t understand how this can happen.

  • I would be demanding an explanation and an investigation. Not on!

  • I would be going in everyday demanding answers! That’s terrible.

  • I hope they get shut down if they can’t come up with an explanation. Either take responsibility or suffer the consequences of ensuring it doesn’t happen again by closing the centre. I don’t think the little one is old enough to remember, not sure how far back some memories go, my earliest is 2.5-3 approx, but something like this could scar a kid and give a fear of being looked after at a centre or being anywhere with other kids without constant supervision.

  • Horrible. How could this have happened? So sad to see that the mother didn’t get any answer yet. :-(

  • Some of those look big enough to have been done by an adult! Maybe that’s how they manage to get so many done without it being stopped! They definitely need to get on with their investigations so that it doesn’t happen again!

  • That just makes me feel sick. They should be shut down. Its awful that nobody ever got back to her about it.

  • Ive had both of my children bitten at child care but the center was full open disclosure and they intervened immediately. This is just unacceptable of the center

  • That is so horrible. You expect your child to be safe there and the fact it is not a one-off incident makes it even worse. The child is too young to be able to tell staff. They can’t be watching these kids well enough. How disgraceful that the staff at centre, manager or police have not done or said anything further. I think they want to sweep it under the rug, two months and still nothing.

  • Oh my goodness! The poor little one and of course the mum is devastated. I hope she gets answers and I hope there is a thorough investigation and accountability. I would not stop demanding answers until there are comprehensive and satisfactory answers and an outcome. I hope bub and mum get support and the whole family.
