Hello!

I have just finished listening, on audio CD, to the amazing 2nd novel by a young Australian author, Jessica Townsend, Wundersmith : the calling of Morrigan Crow.

Her first novel, The trials of Morrigan Crow, was just as good.

The narrator, Gemma Whelan, made both books come alive and there was mood appropriate music which added to the suspense.

The targetted age group is 8 – 13 and if your children found the Harry Potter books a bit too scary but still liked the concept, then these books will suit them wonderfully.

The main character, Morrigan Crow, discovers she is a Wondersmith, supposed to be the most hated person in Nevermore.

Her aim, in the 2nd book was to prove everyone wrong and be allowed to learn with the other students instead of being shunned because of her powers.

These books take the reader on a magical journey allowing Morrigan to learn a little about herself in each book along with a few other main characters.

As an adult, I like listening to books as I can do other things but a child who likes reading could easily immerse themselves in these books.

The author has said she will be writing 9 books in this series, something to look forward to.

These books would make a fantastic gift, to be read many times as they contain so many twists and turns.

  • I’ll have to keep an eye out on the books and grab them if they’re at a decent price for my kids. And me haha

  • I might enjoy reading them,I think I would be easily distracted and float off if I tried to listen to someone reading me a book
