Her bridesmaid says that the decision to not the provide a meal has left friends and family shocked…

Catering can be one of the most expensive parts of a wedding, but one bride has gone against the trend and decided not to provide any food at her reception. Taking to Facebook, one of bridesmaids says that the absence of any food on the day will cause uproar with guests and believes there are other ways the couple could cut costs…

A Big Deal

In her post, the bridesmaid said that the bride had always wanted a relaxed wedding with minimal fuss. “They are really focused on their wedding being a nice relaxed time on some large outdoor property,” she wrote. “I love the simplicity and it’s totally them (but) I just found out that to cut costs, they’re not providing food. Like. What!?” The post went on to say that guests would have to order food to the wedding venue as it was a whole day affair. “It’s a whole day thing, even into the night, and no food!? Everyone else I can see just getting hammered with no food and it’s going to be messy,” she said.

Making Sacrifices

Commenters on the bridesmaid’s post were quick to assure her that she wasn’t overreacting to consider saying something to the couple. “If you can’t afford to feed all your guests, you either need to invite less people or have a smaller, shorter wedding,” one Facebook user wrote.

With weddings becoming more and more expensive, most couples have to make sacrifices in order to pay for the big day, but when it comes to feeding your guests, cutting food all together is never going to be a popular option. Perhaps this couple should consider finding a more affordable venue – if they don’t, there might not be any guests to worry about!

Do you think this couple are wrong to serve no food to their wedding guests? Let us know in the comments.

  • I would love to jear how this event went.

  • Think food should be provided if it is a whole day affair – even if it is only finger food. Stop the alcohol and the food is relatively cheap.

  • I would have thought with the Responsible Services of Alcohol laws in place that a venue couldn’t provide the space and alcohol without food being ordered. I agree with some of the other points it is just plain rude hospitality to invite someone and not cater.

  • A wedding without food looks like a grab for cash and pressies. Not on

  • At any function that goes for extended period of time I feel the host should provide some food at least

  • Wow! Is this what things are coming to? Just ridiculous. You must provide food and drink (not necessarily alcohol). I think they need to re-think why they’re getting married and who they most need to share it with.

  • no, if this is a whole day affair they need to provide food.

  • I dunno I’m in two minds – just bring something to share and make is a relaxed sharing food party?

And the other is if you can’t afford catering – do it yourself and and family to help.

  • It seems weird not to serve food

  • I didn’t eat anything on the day of my wedding, I was so nervous! I was starving by the time the reception rolled around. I would get the bride to not eat for a day, while laced into a tight bodice and heavy skirts, by the evening she will be starving and tired and realise that food is needed!

  • I think the bride needs to rethink not serving food at her wedding reception. People won’t want to stay all day with no food. If the guests are to supply their own food then don’t give a wedding gift or leave after the marriage and not stay for the reception.

  • Eeeek that’s a bit awkward.
I’d suggest what others have, cut back the number of guests and the length of the day and that will help
Provide money for food for the day

  • There is definitely ways to cut cost but when the wedding is a while day then how do toy expect you’re guests you go without food? Have a grazing table or nibbles or something.

  • That is a bit too frugal. If your wedding is a “whole day affair” you can’t expect people to sort out their own food, especially when there are so many affordable options if they are on a property. Surely someone owns a BBQ, bring that out and have a massive pot luck style party.

  • Seriously? One way to show how much your guests mean to you! The tradition is the price of the meal should equal how much is spent on gifts, so are they expecting gifts too? It’s so easy to save money on weddings and if you can’t afford caterers get family to help cater. Friends of mine actually self catered and did all the decorating and it was beautiful!
