Hello!

If you asked me to describe myself in three words, ‘sexy’ wouldn’t be one of them.

Who am I kidding? It wouldn’t even come close. I spend my days in tracksuit pants, no make up and my unbrushed hair pulled into a messy bun.

But, 2015 is my year. As JT once said, I am bringing sexy back.

Let me start by clarifying, ‘sexy’ to me does not mean I’ll be wearing skimpy dresses to Mothers Group, or talking seductively to everyone I meet. I won’t be taking up pole dancing lessons, buying risqué lingerie or even practicing my Beyonce moves in front of the mirror (ok, I can’t promise on that).

I will however be bringing it back in my own way – who is with me?

Sexy to me is about feeling good about yourself, both inside and out. You feel sexy when you are happy, healthy, positive and confident.

Let’s break it down so we can do this together…

EXERCISE

It’s a well known fact exercise releases those happy endorphins. Aside from that ‘happy feeling’, exercise has so many other health benefits that attribute to you looking and feeling better about yourself. Whether it’s a spin class, taking your kids for a walk in the pram or star jumps in the lounge room – the main goal is to get your body moving.

Often Mums are time poor (me included!), so I try to incorporate my exercise into the kids day as much as possible. Whatever works for you is a winner as long as you can keep it up. Goals help your motivation so here are my suggestions;

  • Book in a fun run. Do it with a friend so you can train together and motivate each other.
  • Join a team sport. You won’t want to let your team mates down each week.
  • Exercise in the morning. You are done early and can reap the rewards throughout the day.
  • Exercise when you are waiting. Whether it’s waiting for the water to boil, the bath to run, the kids to stop crying. Do squats, star jumps, push ups, whatever takes your fancy.

HEALTHY EATING

Common sense says healthy eating will have you looking and feeling better. When you are eating right everything just works better and you have that happy healthy glow.

Now, I am by no means an advocate. Today the kids and I indulged in pancakes for lunch. Not our usual meal but rather a request from my two year old that I simply couldn’t refuse.

Life is too short not to allow treats now and then – just all in moderation. Even just a few changes to your diet can make such a huge impact.

So, here are my suggestions;

  • WATER, WATER, WATER. Ok and some wine. But seriously, you will be thankful if you drink litres of water each day and it will show.
  • Second helping? Portion control plays a massive part (pardon the pun).
  • Eat fresh, eat wholesome and eliminate those packaged foods a little. Smoothies are my go to – you can throw so much goodness into one cup and it’s easy to drink on the go.

POSITIVE THINKING

A positive thinker is ultimately a happier person. They are a person that sees the bright side of life regardless of what curve balls they are thrown. Of course, naturally in life there are unhappy times and sad periods, however it’s all about making the most out of every situation.

One of my fav Instagram follows is ‘Smiling Mind’ – a constant reminder that happiness is an inside job. It’s something we all individually have to work hard at everyday. Here are my suggestions on how to increase those positive thoughts;

  • Don’t sweat the small stuff. We are all guilty of this (me especially as a worrying Virgo) – however I remind myself; what benefit does worrying have? We can worry to our hearts content, it won’t change a damn thing.
  • Start each day with a grateful heart. Think of something you are grateful for, happy about, excited for. Big or small it doesn’t matter.
  • Surround yourself with happy and positive people. Their zest for life will rub off.

BOOST YOUR CONFIDENCE

Confident people inspire confidence. However, reality is most of us have those feelings of self doubt now and then.

The good news is confidence can be learnt and built on through your life. It comes from feelings of acceptance and belief in your own ability and skills.

Trust in yourself – YOU HAVE GOT THIS. Here are some suggestions for boosting your self worth and self esteem;

  • Book in something you wouldn’t normally do. From shark diving to public speaking, the options are endless.
  • Put yourself out there. Often this can be daunting but in more cases than not you will reap the rewards. Whether it be starting something new, meeting new people or going to new places – they all count.
  • Dress up, put some lippy on. If ever in doubt this will definitely give you the pep up you need.

Lets do this.

  • Lol. Bring sexy back! Lol. I never had sexy to be able to bring it back. Suits me, I’ve never had it so I don’t miss it. It’s too much effort to be sexy, much easier to just be me :)

  • Sexy is about confidence. A beautiful girl can be undesirable if she doesn’t feel beautiful.

  • Great article! When you feel, fit, strong and centred you exude a certain confidence. I know I feel more attractive when I feel happier within myself.

  • Thanks for a great article.This year, my eight year old daughter and I started doing a mat pilates class together. I’d been doing pilates for a while, but now our Saturday mornings start with mat pilates together then we have a fairly healthy lunch together and a brief browse in the shops before heading home. No we don’t have a Saturday lie in or the whole morning spent in our pjs, but we both love it!

  • Feeling sexy is all about feeling good about yourself! I agree with so much of this wonderful article. My darling mum when she was alive used to say it is just as easy to look nice as look as you stepped out of a rubbish bin! I have always remembered that. Every day after I get dressed I put a little bit of eyeliner on and some mascara as I were specs and it accents your eyes and pop on a little teeny bit of blush and lippy and it makes me feel like a woman. Hubby jokingly says have you put on your war paint yet sweetie? SERIOUSLY it does make me feel good and ready to face the day! I have never been one to hang around all day in a dressing gown. On special occasions I wear a little bit of foundation but it is so light not put on with a bricky’s trowel! less is more trust me!

  • Sexy to me means feeling good in your own skin. No matter your shape, colour or size. It’s the self confidence that shines through.

  • I also love people that push the boundaries and attempt new pursuits regardless of ability. That ‘have a go’ attitude is a big tick to ‘sexy’.
