If you suffer from sensitive skin, you know how challenging it can be to find a moisturizer that does not cause irritation, allergic reactions, or breakouts. You probably have a long history of red, itchy, flaky, or greasy skin thanks to products that might have claimed to be great for sensitive skin but did not live up to it.

You want smooth, nourished skin just like everyone else. You need to find a moisturizer that does not lead to a bad reaction, worsening skin issues, and frustration.

The Claims Moisturiser Labels Make

Bottles on the health and beauty store shelves may say “hypoallergenic,” “fragrance-free,” or even “recommended by top dermatologists.” They can laud themselves as “for sensitive skin” and “extra gentle.” However, when you look at a JAMA Dermatology study on these claims, you see that they are more than little white lies.

The Truth Behind the Moisturiser Claims

The study mentioned above included careful research on the ingredients included in over 100 commonly purchased moisturisers. Although several were priced higher than their non-hypoallergenic counterparts, many were found to have the same chemical ingredients in them. These represent quite a few known to irritate skin and cause allergic reactions.

For example, a chemical commonly understood to be a fragrance cross-reactor was in 45% of the lotions that said “fragrance free.” A full 83% of the moisturisers that claims to be hypoallergenic included ingredients known to cause allergic reactions in some users.

What is the Solution for Honest Moisturiser?

With all this conflicting labelling, how can you know which moisturizer is the best for you to use? The labels on the bottles and jars and associated advertising are obviously in the habit of telling untruths.

Educate yourself about what chemical ingredients may cause what affects. Better still, opt for moisturizers and other bath and beauty products using natural ingredients only. These tend to be safer, more beneficial for overall health, and effective at truly moisturizing and nourishing your skin.

Better still, ingredients straight from Mother Nature heal from the outside and from within after they are absorbed. Various natural motions have been shown to repair skin damage, give a boost to oxygenated blood flow, and improve the rate of rebuilding collagen stores.

Make the right choice for your skin by purchasing all-natural moisturizers instead of those full of questionable chemicals that do not live up to the labels’ claims.

  • I find that some products marked sensitive are great for me and some products that are not for sensitive skin are also great. My skin lets me know very swiftly if its not happy with anything that I am using.

  • Apparently it is a similar story with eye serums and creams.

  • I agree that it is trial and error. You just have to find what works for you and your skin.

  • I would like to think so. I don’t change my skin care. It took a lot of trial and error and medical appointments to get to where I am now and all I know is that what I’m using is working. That’s all that matters to me at this point.

  • Beauty products are big business and they will tell you anything to get your money. There are no regulations on skin care, and we absorb all the nasty chemicals through our skin so they should have the same stringent laws as food and medicine. That goes for toothpaste, shampoos and other body products too. I don’t need a label for ‘fragrance’ I can smell the ‘parfum’, I am highly sensitive to it, it is so toxic I can smell it on people as they walk past. Interesting read is the book by Kate Grenville ‘The case against fragrance’.
