Celebrity chef Pete Evans this week raised eyebrows again after admitting he’d rather his kids ‘have cannabis’ than drink alcohol when they’re of age.

The My Kitchen Rules star made the surprising admission on Instagram yesterday when asked by a follower how he would feel if his daughters smoked weed, given his pro-cannabis stance.

“They are fully aware of what I do and stand for,” replied Evans “They know I have taken many different forms of medicines and drugs in the past. We have open and honest discussions about it so they are educated on the topic. Nothing is off the table for discussion. I would much prefer them when they are of an age to have cannabis over alcohol 1000 per cent.”

Pete is dad to Chilli, 14, and Indii, 11.

Evans appeared as a guest reporter on Sunday Night over the weekend. He weighed up the pros and cons of the drug.

We hope you tune in tonight for our first cannabis story to feature on Sunday Night at 8:30pm on channel 7. Thank you to channel 7 and the @sundaynighton7 team for sharing this story with you all tonight. Many of the doctors, scientists, researchers, patients, parents, activists, organic regenerative growers we have interviewed, believe we should be able to grow this plant organically in our gardens in healthy soil, in sunlight, alongside other healing/medicinal plants/herbs to be used as food and or medicine in a responsible and respectful manner, if we choose to as discerning adults. At the moment, companies are making a 500- 1000% profit of medicinal cannabis and other cannabis industries are marking up this plant to be unaffordable for most. Often it may not be the best quality product that is available, and children and adults are dying because they cannot access or afford this plant due to the red tape and fear this country currently has. Two weeks ago I interviewed a young man who has to pay 100k a year for this medicine in Australia to stay alive, yet he is not allowed to grow it for free at home and cultivate a relationship with it. Some believe we should have it only medicinally, whereas others want it recreationally. This is a basic human rights issue and one that we will keep openly discussing until law reform happens in this country and until the costs come down for the people that need it most. It is not going to go away and the momentum is building. I am proud of tonight’s segment as it is a start in creating a much needed conversation in this country. Our team and I look forward to sharing a more in-depth look at what this plant is, and what is isn’t, in our upcoming documentary film THE MAGIC PLANT releasing later this year, which may be an eye opener for many as there are so many benefits this plant can offer for individual health as well as for the planet. Not everyone needs or wants to get high off this plant, just like people have a choice when it comes to alcohol and other powerful substances, but that should not be the reason that we shouldn’t be able to grow this wonderful plant in its most natural and beneficial way. ????

Sometimes you just have to laugh ????. But in all seriousness some of the most memorable messages I have received from people are similar to this and they start out by saying “ dear pete, I always thought you were a knob, a dickhead, a f#%£tard,”( or insert any derogatory name calling someone can think of, and there have been some doozies, then they continue to say…) “and then I read between the lines of what mainstream media were saying about you or the ideas you and the people you interviewed talk about, and I did some investigation myself and watched the magic pill or the paleo way. Then I changed my diet, lifestyle etc etc, and now I am the healthiest I have ever been ????”. They usually don’t end by saying that they still think of me as a wanker but hey….everyone is entitled to their opinion as I do believe in free speech which seems to be something that certain sectors are attempting to shut down. If one person changes the way they live their life for the better and that has come from the lies the media portray about me and others then it is definitely worth it in my opinion. This comment today did give me a good laugh though and I am glad he shared his thoughts. ????????

Well at least it is their headlining story, once again bringing cannabis into the spotlight, so that has to be a good thing as it creates awareness and much needed conversation about this plant. I can’t help but think this is Groundhog Day again….first paleo, then cannabis. I wonder how they are going to cope with the next film after this one which will focus on conscious awakening including other plant medicines. The interesting part is that very few (if any) of these so called journalists ever interview the people about the profound benefits that they have had by changing their diets, or including plant medicines such as cannabis in these articles. Hopefully they can watch movies like THE MAGIC PILL and THE MAGIC PLANT and others, and educate themselves as to how to ask questions and report the truth which could really change the way people look at these topics….it isn’t that hard….because if a chef can do it, why can’t they? Oh and for some reason they never reach out to me for a comment for these stories…I wonder why? ✌️❤️???? https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/health/longtime-medicinal-cannabis-advocate-warns-pete-evans-involvement-invites-controversy/news-story/1d1af45b5dbdc795ea454fdc10d3d33f

  • I think there are many people who feel the same way.
Im a non drinker and non smoker. I have daughters and I do worry about how much they might drink but can only hope they are sensible.

  • Seeing what medicinal marijuana can do for some people that are suffering, I strongly support its use and legalisation. I don’t agree with preferring the use of cannibis over alcohol though. Smoking pot surely does as much damage to a body as drinking alcohol does. I think Petes comment about it may have been taken out of context though.

  • Interesting article, definitely a controversial debate.

  • I support medical marijuana but statements like this are just idiotic!

  • Yes I support medical marijuana, and I support recreational use as well, I support growing your own medicine. You only have to look at what Canada has done and how it is working so well for both medicine and recreational. But we won’t see it happening very fast until they work out who is going to make the money from it. Our Government is in bed with big pharma and big pharma do not want people to stop using their medication which is far more dangerous. And definitely marijuana is safer than alcohol. No one has ever died from it but thousands die from alcohol every year either directly or indirectly. Look at the history of marijuana and you will realize it has been around for thousands of years and used as a medicine, it is a herb, a plant, and has unique qualities. It was put on this planet to be used as a medicine but was taken away during the 60’s when the propaganda machine started telling everyone lies and they started locking up people who used it.

  • I agree with medical marijuana for ailments that can be helped with it, but smoking it for a ‘high’ is way out of my realm of imagination. Pete is right about free speech and debate but I don’t always agree with him.

    Reply

  • Simply, i agree with him

  • not sure but it was a good read!

  • There is a huge difference between medicinal Marijuana and smoking Marijuana as a leisure activity.
