Colour, Make, Model, single or dual cab?

Do you want the sports model or a saloon?

Did you ever think it would be so tricky, time consuming and expensive? My husband said it was harder than buying a new car!!

Things to consider when choosing a pram include:

  • Single or double (especially if you are planning another baby)
  • If double, side by side or back/front?
  • Does it fit through a standard doorway?
  • Can it fit into the boot of your car without having to dismantle it?
  • Can you lift it into the car or is it just too heavy?
  • Is it within your budget?
  • Where will you mainly be walking as this determines the best wheel size, e.g. on tracks/rough ground you need a bigger wheel than on the footpath.
  • Does it meet the Australian Safety Standards? This means being careful if you buy a secondhand pram.
  • Can it recline flat for a newborn baby?
  • Is the carry basket underneath accessible and practical for your use?
  • Can the height of the handle be adjusted to suit both you and your partner?
  • What colour do you want? Remembering for resale value a standard colour often sells better.
  • Do you want extras such as rain cover?

Top Tips:

  • Buy it at a place where you can take it outside and wheel it around.
  • Take it out and lift it and fit it into your car.
  • Talk to other parents about their view on their pram.
  • Do your research on price as it can vary a lot.

All of this research can save you lots of money- I have friends who have been through 4 prams as none of them “worked” for them. If you take your time and do your research you will hopefully select a pram that works well for you and your family.

Happy Walking

  • Baby items are the hardest things to decide on. I’d never seen such huge disparities in reviews before. I ended up taking the chance and buying a pram online that can’t be purchased in stores. It was an amazing price, the newer model was about to be released so it was a huge saving. Thankfully I love it. And little guy seems to love it too. It’s so important to do as much research as you can handle, find reviews from Normie mums who have posted pictures so you can see it in action if you can’t test it in person.

  • When I buy a pram, I check if it\’s stable and if it\’s easy to manoeuvre/use. I also check the quality of the brakes, strength and adjustability of straps, and if there are sharp edges. After that, I look at the features like added suspension, swivel wheels etc. Anyway, I bought mine at Rozibaby(http://rozibaby.com/lp/4-wheel-prams-australia)- they have an array of choices and the customer service is great. I chose a flat folding prams cuz it tends to be more durable for walks and it suits my lifestyle. Highly recommended!

  • Make sure you put some weight into the seat bit of the pram when you test it! Everything is smooth to push around when there is no weight!

  • We left a trail of prams behind us when we were choosing. If we couldn’t put it up or down we moved on until we found a pram we could use.

  • A good pram is essential, but I just buy second hand and pass the love on when we’re done! Dont be fooled into the fashion trap though…who cares if you drive a Honda or a BMW ? not your baby?
