Coles have the perfect birthday cake for just $16. The rainbow cake will make you look like a professional cake maker!

The Coles creation has five different colours layered inside, and is frosted with thick white icing.

With or without decoration it makes for the perfect birthday cake!

Coles have also provided an idea for decorating the cake in the Coles Magazine. And it’s a simple way to make a delicious cake look very very fancy.

Carrie Bickmore even had a go at making the cake for daughter Evie’s birthday, and it looks delicious!

  • I like the bold cake appearance although I would probably make the whole cake from scratch at home, a lot cheaper

  • Now the secret is out lol.
People will know it really wasn’t homemade but home decorated instead?!
I’d love to see how people have innovated and decorated the cake in their own ways.

  • Firstly I am surprised this cake was not on the rate it section and I actually had to start a new product …must admit not sure where to put it though, it is bakery but the sub title is not helpful as it is not bread, so I put it in sweets. There was an article about this cake written by mom some 6mths back and apparently even Carrie Bickmore was a huge fan. But as for me I was not. Firstly to the rainbow colours ..well my view is they were way too bright and actually gross looking to me, not the pretty colours of a rainbow I often see, yes they were the rainbow colours but just to intense. Coles state that there is no artificial colours & flavours but my tasting of this cake actually tasted like it was artificial not pleasant at all for me. The only ingredients I could see re: colours and flavours was natural vanilla, natural colours Tumeric, 120=carmine commonly named cochineal (which by the way can cause allergic reactions in some folk), Gardenia Extracts and natural colour (Carotene). Coles also state this cake to be a sponge, well sorry sorry Coles but not my idea of a sponge at all. Actually when I served a slice up to a female aged 25 she said Oh nice butter cake, well she did like it but hello it is supposed to be a sponge. The actual height of this cake is not like one would expect and certainly nothing like the high cake picture on the box or web site. They are quite low and have viewed pictures where folks use two cakes when decorating for Birthdays etc. Lastly this cake is frozen from fresh and simply thawed in its container on the shelf (oh I am so over frozen then thawed cakes). The cake states made in Australia from 51% Australian Ingredients (which to me is really not enough). The cake is 770g and sells for $16 but I will not be purchasing this one again. Finally: Family was a little divided on this one but all did agree it was not the nicest cake they have had. Thank you for allowing me to give my honest opinion.

  • This looks so good. And so much cheaper then paying a professional to make a cake. Thanks Coles

  • I am the worst cake baker. I wish my cakes would look even just a 1/4 as good as this.
    Well done
