  • Growing up, every year without a doubt my mum would make me a chocolate cake. Just a basic chocolate cake with yummy butter chocolate icing.

It was always so delicious and we would fight for the leftover crumbs. Cakes were so basic back then but I still think my mum made the yummiest of all my friends cakes!

  • It was my sister’s birthday……it was the 70s……..purple icing……..babysitter helping………. I was eager………a slip of the bottle………….at least purple was in………..

  • My despicable little sister,
    Wanted a despicable cake,
Nothing is more despicable than a minion,
It was so much fun to bake!

  • I remember the excitement of having an ice cream cake for my birthday. All the delicious flavours!

  • My favourite birthday cake memory is my 8th birthday cake made by my mum because it was a Strawberry Shortcake cake that she made without a recipe or photo to copy

  • My sister made me a “Chanel” bag cake it was stunning, id love to try make her something lovely for her birthday!

  • My partner’s attempt at my birthday a couple of years back. I wanted something low key and he made me a cake from scratch. It looked great but wasn’t as sweet as it looked as he added SALT instead of SUGAR.

  • Making my sons first birthday cake was an amazing moment. I struggled through the recipe and the decoration and I loved it.. he didn’t care in the slightest. But I felt proud. x

  • My sisters attempted to make a mickey mouse birthday cake for my 18th birthday using a tin in the shape of Mickey. It overflowed and they tried cutting the bottom off and decorating it anyway, all the icing was too runny and ran together. It was hilarious.

  • As kids we looked through mum’s old WW Birthday cake book and it chose a cake. Each year it was such fun. Now I do this with my children and even their friends get in on the act. We have our 16 y/o neice living her enow. She missed this fun as a child so wanted a turn. She chose the train for her 16th. (I know… but she loves it) She and her little cousins helped create it. We ball built a track around the big dining ing table and she invited her friends over. We made 22 railway trucks, one for each of her friends, each filled with a different sweet. It was the hit of the year! SHe’ll never forget it and now she has a memory to keep too.

  • After dinner on my 13th birthday, I stayed at the kitchen table. My mum asked me what I was doing. “Aren’t we having cake now?” I said. My mum looked horrified – she had forgotten to get me a cake! 20 years on and we still talk about it.

  • I remember when my aunty ordered me a cake with a photo of my brother and I printed onto the icing! It was so mind-blowing how they did that.

  • I will never forget my first taste of a Ferrero Rocher birthday cake (bought). The cake was light and delightful, and I dream of being able to created something so beautiful and delicious!

  • I made my daughter a little sweet shop birthday cake and unfortunately when I lit the candles the bunting caught alight and the sweet shop I’d painstakingly worked on went up in flames. My daughter cried, the guests laughed and I felt terrible for ruining her cake.

  • Proud mummy moment for making this cake for my daughter; I’m not very artistic at the best of times, and it’s not fancy like many you see these days, but it put a smile on Belle’s face, which is good enough for me!
