WIN 1 of 20 copies of Going Under by Sonia Henry, thanks to Allen & Unwin.

A darkly funny and sexy novel that blows the lid off the medical profession and life inside a hospital by a young doctor whose anonymous article about the pressures of trainee doctors went viral around the world.

‘A compelling eye-opener written by one who clearly knows.’ Judy Nunn, bestselling author of Sanctuary

Dr Katarina ‘Kitty’ Holliday thought once she finished medical school and found gainful employment at one of Sydney’s best teaching hospitals that her dream was just beginning. The hard years, she thought, were finally over.

But Kitty is in for a rude shock. Between trying to survive on the ward, in the operating theatre and in the emergency department without killing any of her patients or going under herself, Kitty finds herself facing situations that rock her very understanding of the vocation to which she intends to devote her life.

Going Under is a rare insight into the world of a trainee female medic that takes an unflinching look at the reality of being a doctor. It explores the big themes – life, death, power and love – through the eyes of Dr Holliday as she loses her identity and nearly her mind in the pressure-cooker world of the hospital. But it is also there that Kitty might find her own redemption and finally know herself for the first time. Darkly funny, sexy, moving and shocking, Going Under will grip you from the opening page and never let you go.

‘From the first grim failed attempt to cannulate a vein, I knew Going Under was the real deal. I’m still having flashbacks to my own intern days because of it. Sonia Henry writes with a combination of heart and precision that only the best of writers, and doctors, can manage.’ Nick Earls, bestselling author of Bachelor Kisses

  • Claire in oatlander book very strong character

  • Helen Fielding’s Bridget Jones from Bridget Jones’s Diary because I not only like the character whom comes across so lovable or at least likeable from within a less than desirable friendship base, but also because she was played by Renée Kathleen Zellweger who is so attractive, intelligent and caring!

  • Ginny Weasley (if that counts), isn’t afraid to do what it takes to save the one she loves!

  • Elizabeth Bennett of Pride & Prejudice. She is a total original – classy, sassy and not afraid to speak her mind!

  • Bridget Jones, shes the inner goof ball in all of us, we can all relate to her at some point or another.

  • Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth. Despite her appalling family, and modest approach to love, she bags the most eligible bachelor in Britain!

  • I can’t go past Claire Randall Fraser, from Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series. Claire, a WWII nurse steps through a stone circle and finds herself in 1743 in the Highlands of Scotland, and falls passionately in love with the delectable Jamie Fraser. Claire is highly intelligent, capable, courageous, loyal, lovable and very, very feisty!! And passionate! Did I mention she loves Jamie passionately?? If you haven’t read these books, ( the first is Cross Stitch), what are you waiting for?? Go! Beg, borrow or steal a copy and start the great adventure! I promise you you will never regret it! :)

  • i love Jane from Jane – The virgin.

  • I often read but Romance is not a type I often pick up. I am medically trained and about to go under the knife this would be great to indulge in post op.

  • Stella Lane from “The Kiss Quotient” by Helen Hoang. It’s an interesting read full of quirks as Stella has Aspergers. She relies heavily on Math as the best sort of logic she knows. Eventually, she discovers that there is some logic to love.

  • Julie Andrews as i love her in sound of music the songs always cry at the end

  • cool awsome

  • good holiday in style

  • Not normally a romance reader but this book looks really interesting

  • TBH I don’t really have one, I pretty much love them all as they help distract me from chronic pain when I’m up most of the night
