WIN 1 of 20 copies of the novel Into the World by Stephanie Parkyn, thanks to Allen & Unwin.

  1. In the midst of the French Revolution, unwed mother Marie-Louise Girardin takes one last look at her baby son before entrusting him to her friend, the revolutionary Olympe de Gouges. She must escape, and only the most daring plan will bring her both the anonymity she needs and the independence to return one day for her son.

Marie-Louise disguises herself as a man and joins a voyage of exploration employed as a steward on the Recherche, one of two ships commissioned to journey to the Great Southern Ocean to find the missing explorer La Perouse.

Protecting her identity throughout, Marie-Louise forms friendships among the eccentric naturalists. But tensions rise between the royalist officers and the revolutionaries, and Marie-Louise’s position becomes precarious when she discovers someone on board knows the secrets of her past. When the expedition docks in Java, chaos erupts as they learn of King Louis XVI’s execution and are imprisoned by the Dutch. Marie-Louise seems certain to be unmasked. Will she ever return to France and be reunited with her child?

Inspired by a true story, Into the World is a compelling novel of the amazing life of Marie-Louise Girardin battling perilous seas, her own self-doubt, and finding unforeseen loves on a journey to reclaim her child.

  • I think Miss Peregrine (from Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children) turning herself into a peregrine falcon is pretty awesome. I’d love to be able to fly.

  • My children grew up with Harry Potter and truth be told, my daughter bought me “A Journey Through the History of Magic for Christmas”. So the cleverest disguise would have to be Harry’s invisibility cloak.

  • The is NO way in the WORLD any could beat Harry Potters INVISIBILITY Cloak . I just CAN’T SEE how it could be beaten (No use posting a photo It’s invisible)

  • Absolutely love, Maxwell from Get Smart, once he was a letter box – his crazy disguises are always kooky but make me smile and love his character even more.

  • I love Amanda Bynes in she’s the Man, her epic disguise is legendary!

  • Mystique. Can be whatever she needs to be! perfect!

  • Mrs. Doubtfire, adapted from book by Anne Fine. Divorced father Daniel (Robin Williams) disguises himself as a housekeeper to spend time with his children without his ex-wife’s knowledge. It is Robin William magic to marry wit and humour and a tribute to him. Clever and hilarious as chaos ensues!

  • I think for the most clever disguise I would go with Disney’s Mulan. An inspirational female protagonist, plus it’s a musical and a Disney movie, there is no better combination!

  • Storm. Her enemies are blown away by her powers and disguise her insecurities.

  • I liked the disguise of Robin Williams in Mrs Doubtfire.

  • Austin Powers as a man of mystery we all know someone who resembles him but not quite the real deal.He seamlessly blends into any backdrop by looking like the ordinary man.

  • The most clever disguise is when Marie Louise disguises as a man and goes on a ship. It’s such a clever idea to hide her true identity as she needs to get back to France and be with her beloved son again.

  • Darth Vadar – because unlike so many other ‘masked’ characters, both his face and voice were disguised!

  • Face off drastic plastic surgery to their face to look like someone else.

  • the girl with the dragon tattoo managed to use several disguises successfully to achieve the goals she set out to achieve
