Our favourite family-friendly place to see the Vivid lights is Taronga Zoo and you can now win one of two family passes to Vivid at Taronga Zoo and be dazzled by the Lights for the Wild experience.

This year, Taronga Zoo boasts 19 brand new and 3 revamped installations for a bigger, brighter, bolder Vivid (on until 16 June 2018). The zoo is the perfect pick to see the lights with kids as it’s easy to get to, parking is plentiful and the paths are wide and pram friendly. We also like that the event is ticketed and that there are different session times which all help with crowd control.

The kids will be fascinated by the giant nine-metre long goanna and the massive manta ray as it sails through the trees. Spot the giant bees, multi-coloured elephants, lions and tigers, sinister red-back spiders, leafy sea dragons and other magical creatures.

One of the standout attractions is an enormous echidna with a moving tongue – bound to intrigue the younger visitors to Taronga. You’ll also have the chance to take a Vivid ‘Gorillagram’ featuring three giant-sized illuminated gorillas.

Don’t miss the chance to venture through the mouth of a giant Port Jackson Shark as it splashes two stories high through the façade of Taronga’s heritage entrance.

  • Taronga Vivid experience is centred around the massive illuminated animal installations. Everywhere you looked there was a sculpture to admire. Watching the spectacular light all over. Keep in mind though that most sculptures have a ‘look but don’t touch’ status. Interactive sculptures such as the light-up chameleon which changes colour when you touch the wand to its sensor. Sky Safari is amazing way to see the city lights at night as well as the illuminated harbour bridge and Opera House

  • Give my monkeys a night to see other monkeys.
